Annoying remote locks issue

Do anybody know why my remote locks only work about half the time on my 2001 C320. The remote battery is good. I had it reset once at the dealer and it worked fine for about a month or two. Thanks for any advice. Tim

your FM transmitter is probably going bad...mine however has gone completely out and I am now only able to use the infrared.

I was reading something in the manual about the infared. Does it work realiblely? Does it switch to the infared when the transmitter is bad. Thanks for the input

no, they work simultaneously. The FM is the one you can use from long range the infrared you have to aim at the little tiny square by your drivers door handle as well just like you would with a TV remote. FM you don't have to aim you just push the button and unlock but if that isn't working then you would have to use the infrared method. Hope this helps!

Do you have tint on your car? They frequently screw up the Aerial when applying. The aerial is above the roof lining in the centre of your rear window.

I'm glad whoever the previous owner had tint the windows knew what they were doing then! My fob works like a champ. I can't stand untinted windows (plus I can't see as well). Though they didn't change the window felts and the drivers door tint is all scratched up.

I don't have tint but I have had work done on the rear sun screen. They replaced the motor I believe. Thanks for the input. I will check around there for any problems

Make the tint place pay for new aerial set up - If you search you will find 100s of aerials ruined by the tint guys. Metallic tints can also mess with things

Quick question, is the aerial on the top of the rear glass that looks like more defroster lines or is it the antenna on the outside of the glass?

Yes the Aerial is built into the glass. The Amplifier is mounted above the rear screen on Coupes & in the LHS C pillar in sedans.

If tinting has been done then water frequently shorts the antenna & blows the RF amplifier or when trimming the tint they cut through the wires/traces as they exit the glass.

Metallised mylar tints frequently ruin radio & remote reception. Radio & remote share the antenna/aerial - Only option - remove & replace the tint.

So we have 3 potential problems.

- The tint itself
- A blown RF amplifier
- A damaged antenna trace in the glass or wiring above the glass

The worse case scenario requires replacement of the rear window. The amplifier replacement is relatively easy.

Any idea how to do this effectively on a 2002 C230 coupe?
