I checked the level and it's ok, like it's supposed to be. (at least I think so :-) )

Oh I forgot to say.... the A/C also stopped working, the motor inside the car works, but it's not blowing any cold at all.

What year is your car? The early W203s have a known problem with poor quality condensers that leak. Thank you MB for yet another subpar part. You're looking at a > $1000 fix.

I had an A/C problem last year. Dealer said it was a leak. It was fixed under warranty.

Was that picture taken with the car fully warmed up? If so, the temperature is too low and you probably have a thermostat stuck open.

Yes... I took that picture as soon as I got back home. I must say that the temp never passed the 80 degrees. It was stuck there while driving.

This is kind of frustrating.

BTW, the car is 2001 C180 ( yes.... European model)

I agree with Monte..if your car is fully warmed up, then that does appear to be too low of coolant temp. T stat would be the first place to start checking. Good luck on it and let us know what it turns out to be. The good news is that it is not overheating.

Has it thrown any codes? A P0128 signifies a bad thermostat. There has been a rash of them lately (at least those reported by forum members). There are a couple of recently-created (last few weeks) threads.

FWIW, I had one too and threw a code, but I didn't start a thread about it b/c it's still under warranty so I just let them worry about it.

The thermostat opens at 87 dec C so that is a P0128.

My car has been throwing this message at me since i got it and it's been over 2.5 years. The AC works fine, with the exception of the stepper motor issue, the coolant level is where it should be and the has always run at normal operating temp.

Ryan - does your car have headlamp washers? Sometimes they wire them into the same circuit in some markets & if washer fluid is low or the washer fluid heater is blown it gives the same message. Crazy but true - I don't know whether this applies to the US. I suspect that this might apply to my car but no one can tell me & I've never used the washers.

Yes, i do have headlamp washers. I've heard that low fluid can trigger that message. The washer fluid is full but it very well could be that the heater is blown. I've used them just a few times but i've never really paid attention to the temperature of the fluid. Its something i can live without but i sure do like the look of the washer covers on the bumper.

Unhappy Oh oh

I forgot to ask..... since I have to order this thermostat myself.... my BIG question is.... : " Can I still drive this car while I'm waiting for a new thermostat?" Let's say short distances, where I live is a just a tiny island.

Just wondering....

Yes you can drive it. Just don't thrash it until you get it running at the desired temperature. Just drive it gently.

+1. Plus it makes for a good show for your friends to ooh and ahh over when you're showing off your car. That, and the opening/closing of all the windows and moonroof from your key fob.

I would scroll to the temp display on the MFD, and keep an eye on it as I drive. I shouldn't go much above 80C, but 100C is still OK 120C is getting a bit hot....I imagine the car would tell you...
damn car...it's thinks it so smart.
