Unhappy Some help about installing the CD changer

I need some instruction on how to install the cd changer into the 2002 c230K coupe! I got a cd changer from a 99 E320, I think it should be able to fit in the c230 coupe with no problem, but I do now know how to take the head units out and also the wiring.

Trust me I tried!

I tried to look for information about installing the cd changer, I am talking about intalling it myself, such as taking off the panel and etc. I have already found out where mercdes hides the fiber optical wire for the cd changer, it is actually located inside the trunk of the car, I believe you have to take it out and install it inside the glove box. The question is... how to do that?

The instruction from Pete is not that clear

Does anyone else knows how to remove the central panel? Also how do I connect the cd-player on there?

You mount the cd player in the glove box. When the aftermarket place installed mine they had to go to the dealer to geta special order cable.

I dont think it will work...if your radio is anything like mine then it is not compatable because in 1999 radios are different then the newer 2001 models.

from talking to some people that have done this installation it does not sound like fun. especially if you plan to move the wiring from the trunk to the glovebox...

might have to bite the bullit and go to a dealership

I have few comments on the C230K CD changer installation.

The fiber optics connector in the C230K trunk is intended for the factory phone. It is on the same "ring" as the radio so it might be possible to mount a changer in the trunk using this cable (if you do not have a factory phone). There is power in the trunk as well on a 25 pin connector for the phone. I thought about using an older CD changer in the trunk but I have a problem of where to mount it, where to get a power connector that plugs into the changer and what I need to hook up the third wire in the changer connector. I have been told that the third wire is a "reset" from the system to the CD changer but I do not know that for sure. All that being said, I will probably get one for glove compartment.

As far as the older fiber optic changers, they do have a different part number and I am not sure exactly what the differences are.

On other fiber optic MBs, it is much easier to install a CD changer. For a lot of years, to remove an MB radio, you just needed a couple of small tools to unlatch the radio and it would just slide out. You could have it out in seconds. It was also a standard DIN size so other manufacturers radios would fit. Not on the new C class!

On my 99 CLK, it took about 15 mintues total to mount and hook it up in the trunk. I did not even take the radio out of the dash to put it in. Put the mount on the changer, plugged in the fiber optic cable and the power plug and put two screws in to secure it. It does not seem to need any computer setting to make it work although some seem to think it does. My dealer may have put those in for me because I had it serviced a day or so after I installed it.

In my 99 SLK, I just took out the radio and installed a one CD only Becker unit. It took about a minute to install. It is made by Becker but has an MB part number and is sold by MB dealers (not cheap!). It works great. This does not interact with the car's computer at all so there is absolutely no computer changes. My wife likes it much better than the changer. This unit will not fit in the new C class.

Maybe you should consider what I did. I used a RF module CD Changer which was mounted under my Radio in the second din. I chose a Sony since you can control the CD from the module. It uses a radio station but the sound is still good. I get a nice little remote and the whole thing only cost me $300. I had it professionally installed since it is not easy to take your radio out. YOu need to take the A/C vents out then remove the trim to access your radio. I have gotten complements on it and I get a 10 disc CD changer now.
