Rubber Shim Perch

This is a quote from TireRack.com:

"Mercedes-Benz cars ride height may vary due to vehicle options and Mercedes Benz factory ride adjustment shims. This original MB part is a rubber shim perch, which is located on the top of the spring. These shims vary in thickness from 8 TO 23mm."

Can anyone chime in on the stock thickness of these shims on the front of a 2004 c230 coupe? I'm in the process of lowering my car and I'm thinking I would like the front a bit lower. If anyone has part numbers as well, that would be appreciated!

Thanks

S.

Hi sasmith.. The rubber spring pads are only used on the rear spings. Fronts do not have them.

Can't recall the thickness , but MB numbers them 1-4. What pad that was used from the factory depends on how your car was optioned. If they range from 8-23 mm.. i think they go 8. 13, 18, 23. Check out the sponser link at the top of the forum. I think a few of them sell the pads. Dealer has them too.

Post up some pics when you get 'er lowered ! Cheers, Greg

Wow, thanks glocati! I'm in Eugene, who lowered your car? I'm having a bit of a tough time finding a shop that looks like they will do a good job around here.

Other than cutting coils, is there any adjustment that can be made in the front that isn't going to throw the alignment out?

Thanks

hey S. Great to see another NW-er on here. I spent a few years in Eugene. Cool City. I had Scott Rife from Rife Motors install my H&R coilovers on my wagon. he's got a great one-man shop out in SE Portland off of 205. Let em know if you want his number. Good guy, honest and know's what he's doing.

Anyhow, not much you can do in the front without installing lowering springs. There's a bunch of options if you want go there. check out this thread on suspension...

Thanks for the quick reply! Eugene is a great place to live!
I've got the H&R sport springs. I've measured the distance in the wheel wells and I'm thinking the front will need to be a bit lower.

Thanks for the link! Much appreciated!

Ooo, got ya. I din't know you had the H&R's. A lot of people seem to think they don't lower the front enough...A few have cut a coil with good results.

Either way good luck on it.

I had shim num 1 in the rear before and the rear was tucked after i lowered the car (this results in harsh camber wear and stress on the stock shocks. The shocks will eventually blow after a 6-12months depending on how u drive)...if you want that tucked tire look then go with 1 or 2, but go with aftermarket shocks. If you're not changing out the shocks then, go with shim pad 3 to be on the safe side. hope this helps.

I find this interesting. Standard South African cars all seem to sit lower than American ones - I wonder if it has anything to do with shims/springs fitted here. The shim range listed for all W203 here are as follows:

REAR SPRING SHIM W203

210 325 01 84 5 mm
210 325 02 84 9 mm
210 325 03 84 13 mm
210 325 04 84 17 mm

These are all common with the W210
