Carchip pro on C230 kompressor

Hi Guys,
Has anyone used the CarChip (http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/car/aa31/) on a C230 kompressor sedan?

Thanks

I use to have this. It's not that great. It's better to just get an OBDII with CAN reader. I remember carchip was more for fun. You could have plugged it in and drove your car and it kept loggs of how fast you were going and how many times you did hard breaks.

Here we go:

Up to 300 hours of trip details (newest data records over oldest)
Complete trip details including time/date, distance traveled, speed (1- or 5-second intervals)
Log up to 4 of 23 engine parameters
Provides individual graphs and summary reports
Records/shows extreme acceleration/braking
Allows user-set thresholds for audible alarms, speed, acceleration, and braking (post-drive reports/graphs show when, for how long, and number of times thresholds were exceeded)
Automatic accident log with last 20 seconds speed data before impact
Assign trips as business/commute/personal
Calculate gas mileage
View/Reset engine diagnostic trouble codes (check-engine light)
Test for preliminary emissions status
Software (included) lets you review/clear diagnostic codes, view summaries/detail reports, and copy data to spreadsheets for further analysis

It seems like it's more for entertainment.

Complete trip details including time/date, distance traveled, speed (1- or 5-second intervals)

I think your car should have this capability built in.

I think it's a waste of money. Just get an OBDII with CAN capability.

Thanks jk062602kj.
Do you recommend any OBDII with CAN readers?

I have never used one. I just got my car a month ago. But i'm sure once people see this thread they will recommend you a good one.

I have seen a lot on Ebay but don't know whats the best bang for the buck. I assume they all get the job done.

I did some research seems like any CANOBD2 reader is pretty good.

I would go with eaither the 3100 or 3110.

http://www.canobd2.com/Products/Tools.aspx

I found my old carchip I used it but I can not get error codes because MB uses CAN and my carchip doesn't support CAN.

So you had the same carchip like the one in the link above?
It doesn't show error codes?

Ya, carchip is pretty useless. A member recommended this one and said it gets the job done.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94169

It's 50 bucks which is a great price

Supports all OBD II protocols in vehicles built since 1996, including the newly released Controller Area Network (CAN).
  • Reads and clears generic and manufacturer specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTC)
  • Supports multiple trouble code requests
  • Resets "check engine light"
  • Reviews the emission readiness status of OBD monitors
  • Retrieves VIN number
  • Free CD software with over 7000 diagnostic trouble codes
I would get this instead of the carchip. You will save more money. But if you want the carchip more for fun to see how fast you went, or to see your average miles and stuff like that then the carchip would be the best bet. But if you want it for codes and find out whats wrong with your car then get the one I posted.

Also if you are interested in a carchip I have my old one I found CarChip EX
http://www.autoanything.com/performa...&from_search=1

don't go paying 150 for it.

Lets put it this way evern if you wanted my carchip I wouldnt sell it to you because it's useless (Thats how stupid it is)

All it does is:

  • Log up to 300 hours of driving data onto your Davis Car Chip EX
  • Just plug your Davis Car Chip EX into your OBDII port, and it automatically records key trip information, including departure times, distances traveled, and your speeds (recorded every 5 seconds)
  • Your Davis Car Chip EX makes it easy to separate your business and personal miles, making your expense reports a breeze to fill out
  • Perfect for keeping an eye on your kids and employees' driving habits
  • Set your Davis Car Chip EX to monitor 4 of 23 engine parameters, including rpm, engine load, fuel pressure, battery voltage, timing advance, airflow rate and more
  • In the event of an accident, your Davis Car Chip EX becomes a black-box, generating a log of the last 20 seconds before a collision
  • Always takes special note of any hard breaks and fast accelerations
  • Calculates your gas mileage so you can stay on top of your maintenance
  • Read, understand and clear your check engine light with your Davis Car Chip EX
  • Tests your vehicle's emission status-perfect for screening used cars and avoiding being labeled a gross polluter
  • Your Davis Car Chip EX downloads its memory onto your home computer, creating detailed reports with the included software
  • Fast and easy to use—simply plug your Davis Car Chip EX into your OBDII port, and it automatically begins recording
Get the CAN OBD2 scanner that I posted the link from HarborFreight

50 bucks you can't go wrong.

EDIT
I was going to say i'll sell it to you (carchip) but since I believe it's stupid and useless I don't want to have the feeling that I ripped you off even if you feel you got a good deal.

Thanks pal.
I already ordered it. The one I ordered says that it can be programmed to beep if you reach a certain speed, which is something I can make use of.

I'm going to order the CAN OBD2 scanner too.
Thanks again
