Here is a scenario.

I was looking at some rims, I thought these rims were nice and a great price. But I noticed the thread is towards the middle to end. So I say "BUMP" to bring it to the very first thread so people can see it as well.

Sometimes if you see a product selling but the thread is towards the end, you usually say "BUMP" out of courtesy to bring it to the top so more people can see it. Since most people only look at the most recent (Top).

This can also work for a question. Like for example if I didnt know your question and a week later I see no one has answered it and your thread is towards the bottom, I will say "BUMP" to bring it to the top so people can see it and help out.
