The H&R springs are progressive rate and are stiffer than stock. Setup with the Bilstein sport shock for lowered setup as the OEM is too tall. It gives a nice but firm ride and carves corners real well. don't forget a good pancake spring compressor for the job about $200 bucks on Ebay. the H&R will take out about 1.3 to 1.4 inches in height. Its a better way to go than a coil cut and only about $260.00 from Tire Rack.com.

i think you can stick with the shocks, but then itll wear out cuz the spring rates change (different from OEM springs)
i know what you mean man, those koni yellows are hella expensive!
if you decide on spring/shock combo, an alternative to h&r springs with koni yellows is the h&r cup kit...
both i think are around the same price...

Save your money and get coilovers so you don't go wasting anything by cutting things up or risk breaking your oem stock struts. Trust me its more worth it in the long run and you can always regulate the height if you don't want to ride slammed everywhere you go.

well i think it all depends on you...
if its for cosmetics, for regular everyday drive, i don't think it's really worth spendin 1k on coilovers...i guess sport springs is good enough
if its for performance, better cornering, tracking, then definitely go for the coilovers

considering the recent discussions about tein basics, i'd stick with H&R springs.
especially if your planning on cutting. i remember reading members didn't like the tein springs after cutting. if your not cutting, tein springs on stock sport shocks should'nt be too much of a difference on the shocks. the drop is supposedly minimal though (1/4" maybe?

are the tein springs the same springs used in the basics?

Well if you cut your springs on stock struts, lets just say that I would take coilovers over that setup in terms of ride quality for everyday driving. Cut springs + blown struts = one bumpy ride. Plus you get a better cosmetic factor with coilovers with the fact that you can drop ALOT further than on JUST springs. As well if you ever want to go back to stock you will still have your perfectly good oem struts and springs and you can sell your coilovers for a pretty penny
I don't know I see more pros than cons with coilovers![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

dont get me wrong or anythin, not trying to choose springs over coilovers...i mean id def go wit the coilovers for suspension work, but alota ppl (like me

if i were to go for springs, i would not cut my springs at all...but as ocd as i am about gaps in the front, i probably wouldn't have a choice but to do so in the long run...
ive been through this spring/coilover dilemma since forever...

i still haven't decided which route to take...
for a jobless college student (prob know how i feel), its hard to get the money...
BUT backto the topic,
coilovers > springs
if you can save up money, have the money, so on...

I have Tein Basic COs on one W203 and cut Eibach springs with Bilstein sport shocks on my other W203. I have to say, I like my ghetto setup better as it's less stiffed and cheaper ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I cut 3/4 coil F and 1/2 coil R with pad #1
But yeah, if money is not a problem, get a fully adjustable COs
