Mercedes Acceleration Sensor; ESP Lateral Acceleration: what is the function of this sensor?

My 2002 c240 brakes by itself occasionally and it seems that it is the front brake and I get the ESP light on afterward. Not sure, which sensor to replace? and where all the ESP sensors are located in the trunk?

You need to buy or borrow a scan tool that can talk to the ESP and tell you exactly what's wrong. The module will store specific codes.

Thank you. Where can I get this scan tool? would it be the same tool that checks the engine light on, which I do have, but does not tell me anything?
