Hi Andy,

Yes, I installed 1 TV tuner in Jay's C class and it works. We couldn't get TV antennas with the proper connector, so we used a GPS extension cable which actually picked up TV signals so we were able to watch some channels (sound and vision)...
We also hooked up a digital camera to one of the 2 AV inputs and that worked perfectly as well.
As soon as the car is taken off the parking brake, the screen gets blinded but sound stays on.

The TV tuner works and makes it possible to connect rear screens to the comand which is something I will try later on...when I have time.

Mike...thse TV tuners cost over 1000USD from mercedes...the wiring harness from the comand to the TV tuner costs close to 200USD...the TV antenna is included in the rear window...
The OEM setup is just not affordeable...I have several new MB TV tuners that I will sell for a lot less, but I still have no idea where to get an antenna from *due to the fact that whatever antenna you will connect, reception will be poor).

greetingz,

I bet the screen gets blinded only becuz Jay had his COMAND activated at the dealer...meaning the directions show up on the MFD which I don't care about. I hit the TV button on mine while in motion and the screen switched to "TV! NO SIGNAL" - so I'm guessing and hoping mine WILL WORK WHILE IN MOTION if a video source is ever connected...Steve....your thoughts ????

Mine said the same thing Bagwell, "no tv". However, as soon as Steve installed the TV tuner and you actually get a picture once you start to roll off, the screen blanks out and gives you a message, something like " The screen has been disabled for your safety" or something like that. It is the same for the the two outputs AV1 and AV2.

There is a setting for the rear screen to be activated, I don't believe that screen will blank or I hope not but well see once I add one.

I will play around with the idea of a rear camera on AV2 and a DVD player on AV1.

Jay

Jay, I'd still like to try without having COMAND "activated"...its worth a try right ??!!! or NOT ??? ask ole buddy ole pal Steve for me PLEASE.

Unless you know the tech at MB - I bet there's no way that they will set DAS to enable TV while in motion.

Definitely Mike,

Steve has several TV tuners. Well at least we figured out that the euro TV tuners can receive US channels. I'm not interested in the TV playback as much as the two outputs. TV playback is crappy no matter what type of antenna you use.

We just have to find an MB dealer who still has the old version Star Diag, they can still set that setting, watching while the car is in motion.

The new version of the Star Diag disabled the ability to do that which was released, from what Steve had mentioned, June of 2002.

The TV settings has an option for rear TV, however it's greyed out because I currently do not have anything attached. Next project, hopefully before I leave!!

Hi Jay,

I would be all over the TV tuner as well. I am desperately talking to the car stereo shops down in my area trying to do the same thing. Most don't know what I am talking about, one does, but charges around 3K to convert US or Euro comands for DVD playback ( that includes dvd source). They told me that there is no issue in playback while moving.

I just took a couple of pics of my retrofit and will post them along with the praise of the comand king.....Thanks a lot to you as well.

BTW, if anyone is using the Megacomm adapter in the US with euro comand, is there any format issues connecting to the three phono plugs? NTSC or PAL DVD?

Jack

I think the thing to do is buy a DVD player with the TV tuner built in...then you can get whatever kind of antenna you want...mine has a regular coaxial antenna input....however I'm still looking for a way to connect it to my Euro COMAND....I don't wanna pay the $500 just for the MB TV tuner and the RGB plug that Steve is waiting for is around approx $250USD.

In that case you should check out megacomm.de. They have a new type of video module for Comand that doesn't offer TV functionality. Costs $349 Euro so it's way cheaper.

Guys lets wait until Steve reveils the prices of the TV tuner it might be cheaper than the RGB or just a little bit more and you get two RCA outputs, AV1 and AV2. I would personally wait.

I was the test as always and was offered the TV tuner at an introductory price

The rear screen from what I've found out, does stay on while the car is in motion without any reprograming.

The S class was offered an optional rear screen for the rear that sits right above the rear air vents. It should just plug in, I'm trying to get my hands on one of them.

For the TV reception, Steve used a GPS cable extention as an antenna, it had the same type of connector. We were able to view certain channels, reception in not good but not bad either. Steve took some pics and will post some soon.

Steve has alot of these TV tuners, I believe it's just a matter of time before someone figures out how to hack the comand for "watching while in motion".

Can't you just play with the parking brake sensor somehow to trick it into thinking that the car is parked? It can't be too difficult.

Anybody got screenshots of how to disable the safety feature off (this will let you have the TV on while on motion)?

Euro COMAND System in South Cali

hey everyone. i know, im annoying. so at the advice of most people I should get a Euro COMMAND System versus getting an aftermarket video unit for my 2001 C320. Anyone know how to install them in Southern California? And know where to get them? I saw that Steve does it, but it seems I missed him this month

thanks!

It also works w/ the speed censor which is on the canbus.

MB was a little smarter on this one. There is no way to hack it unless you get your comand reprogramed.

Darn it. Well if anyone finds a way around this it'd be great. Jay do you have yours enabled already?
