Two reverse gears

So I read on here that the 7G tronic has 2 reverse speeds, so I tried accelerating in reverse in an open parking lot. I never felt a shift... is it just one ratio for S and one for C mode?

Huh pretty interesting. Long story short I passed this car with emergency on. I felt bad so I put my car in reverse went reverse no kidding maybe 40MPH. I did feel a shift and I thought I was imagining things. I did feel this wierd shift. althought I have been having transmission problems that is why I may have felt it.

But I was going around 40MPH on S not C

Found it on page 7 of this:

http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdf...9%20062504.pdf

its indeed a different ratio for S and C. I dont think it shifts on the fly.

Correct. It's only C vs. S or on my car
S vs. W.
Summer or winter.
Sometimes I use the W for backing up my driveway so the wheels don't spin.

Not correct. The 7G will shift up in reverse in S & not in C

This is not what it says in the above pdf so it's either profiled differently in different markets or they have changed to on the fly shifting in sport post the time the above was written

Even the 5 speed has two reverse gears. They've had that feature forever. Not sure if it shifts through them though. I know the starting reverse gear depends on S or C. I don't think it really matters if it shifts while in reverse! Unless maybe you're doing some *insane* James Bond ****!

Reversing in C mode + throttle lag = epic fail anyway. Assuming it's normal weather.

The transmission actually has the capability of 7 reverse ratios.....it's just the valve body and electronic control that prevent 7-speed reverse. And....5-speed unit also have two reverse ratios like acr2001 said

I have tried everything, S, C, D but not high speed reverse. No signs of a different ratio or shift. Has anybody got a definite answer to the 2 reverse gear question?
