screechy noise from engine bay when AC is on.
Hey guys
I've been for the last few months having a strange issue when i have the A/C on. About half the times it does this. I have the A/C on and i come to an idle stop and there tends to be this screechy or squeeky noise. Or it occurs lets say I leave the A/C on after i turn off the car and turn it back on and i put it in reverse coming out of parking space or drive way, it does that noise at idle when i have the brake pressed and its in reverse (idle). I haven't gotten a chance to record it but to give you guys i guess a visual idea. I'll try and get a video of it...
Thanks for any replys in advance

It's a little ominous that it does this only with aircon on. These cars have a history of noisy tensioner & idler pulleys. You might be heading for compressor issues. These cars have no clutch on the aircon - they run all the time with an actuator that gets them pumping. Check that the Poly V belt is properly tensioned - Sometimes the belts make some noise. You can spray them with belt dressing. What mileage?

We have seen a few compressors go at this mileage but unusual. Just make sure the compressor pulley is not loose. They have been known to come off if the compressor seizes.

Classic belt slipping noise. Even though there's no on/off clutch for the AC compressor I understand the load still changes with demand....so AC on would cause more load and belt slippage. I hope that's it and not the compressor bearing going. Are the v ribs in the belt polished?

also how do you check if the belts are loose?

If you push on the belt and it flexes too much it's loose, so tighten it. There's a tool/gauge that measures belt tension and there's a specific tension for the belt on your car. I've never used a belt gauge. If the belt is not shiny or cracked in the v grooves (signs of slipping or coming apart) tighten it a bit and see if that stops the noise. If you tighten too much you can break something. If the grooves are shiny or cracked replace the belt. If you push the belt on one of the long stretches between pulleys and it moves an inch it's probably loose.....but I'm not that familiar with the 230 engines. Where's the video? Also take a close up picture of the v grooves.

Also i noticed on the drive today to work when i come to a light stop (idle) the car tends to kind of purrrrr every 15 seconds (goes from 650 rpm and dives itself to 600/590ish RPM ) and then comes back up everytime this happens. Kind of like when you first turn on the AC and it feels like its beginning to die out on the idle if you're at a stop, but my AC is NOT on lol
Could this be related issue to my belt possibly (hopefully just that) being loose?

Yeah that pisses me off when my car feels like its going to stall at a stop sign or redlight. God forbid you are riding with windows down and hit "AUTO" and then press and hold "RECIRC" to activate tunnel mode as you come to a stop. The car shutters. Wish I knew how to fix this.
Anyway, what I was going to say is I'm not sure the shutter/stall feeling is directly related. My car does that from time to time, has since I got it - and doesn't have any A/C noise.
