First of all Thanks for a great tutorial, appreciate all your efforts.

The question I have is related to what you did for DVD's

I have a M320 2002 model which has MCS with CD drive. Was wondering if there is a possibility to copy DVD data and burn on a CD.
I don't want to just upgrade the DVD drive rather I will go for whole system upgrade if DVD to CD conversion is not an option.

What are your thoughts ?

I notice on your hybrid disk you're not including the GPS file

which may be the satellite location file for North America .. have you tried putting it on the disk and running it?

As you can see in the original European disc (first screenshot), there is no such file. The only thing I modified on the European disc are the map files.

I have a slightly different problem, but it is related to yours. We need to understand the MCS2. I want to hack my US Comand (Alpine, MCS2) to make it work with a European DVD, but I did not yet manage to do so.

.
Hi,

- I have a similar problem: I want the Mercedes-Benz - Alpine MCS2 on my GL 450 (2007) to work in the Middle East. It cannot read the Mercedes Middle East Navigation DVDs. So, please, let me know if you find a way to solve this problem.

Did you even try the steps listed above?

- I am trying right now, I am trying to get the right DVDs so that I can try to swap the maps. I do not have the original US navigation DVD, so I am trying to download it. But sure I will try your method and if it works, I will send some present -.

-Meantime, I am also interested in this Crysler talk: If it does us Alpine system, there may be a chance that its DVD would work on the GL.

Tried making a copy of a 2004.1 US MCS II DVD onto a dual layer DVD+R DL (Verbatim brand). I swapped the US English .VC_ replacing it with the UK English .VC2 file from one of the above linked Euro disks. Obviously I gave it the original US English .VC_ file name.

Disk burnt without a problem according to Nero.

Comand says 'please insert a valid dvd'. I'm assuming this has something to do with the way I burnt it and not the file swap. Maybe there is some kind of copy protection on the DVD similar to what they use on computer games.

Anyone?

I'm going to try and analyze the disk tomorrow with Alcohol 120% or a similar program.

Great Stuff Nick

Hi Nick, All,

I've got a ML 550 in the Middle East and my MCS II only accepts US Navi disks it seems. I like the idea of making one of these hybrid disks.

Can anyone indicate the description of the US starting disk before I make some bad investments for the source medias

does:

Mercedes Comand APS 2009 DVD 10 sound right for the files listed?

I'll then start experimenting with Euro and middle east maps

Also, as you guys seem very clued up on this - can the dealer computers be used to program my radio for euro freqs? I see in debug it's not possible
Cheers!

Hi, welcome to the same problem!
No, the APS would not work - it is a European DVD. I believe what you need for the starting disk is MCS II 2006.1 or a later one. But the problem is that it is no where on the net to dowload. Then you (and I) need a local Middle East Mercedes DVD to swap the files.

Yes! I seem alot of trial and error for a while. I tried:

Mercedes Comand APS 2009 DVD 10.0 for A,B,C,CLK,M,R
to try find a suitable US base disk

There were only 5 files though and it seemed alot simpler than the other examples above.
Needless to say it doesn't work! V9 next I think

There will be lots of trial and error, I had four nav DVD's (two Euro and two North American) before I got a working hybrid. Be prepared to invest some money, or hook up with others who have the discs you need.

As for programming your radio to allow the correct AM frequencies, I'm not sure. Try posting in the ML forum or ask Steve (www.mbenznl.com). Note that this issue only affects AM, not FM, so if you don't use AM then you have nothing to worry about.

Brand of DVD?

Hi Nick,

What was the exact brand and format of DVD you used. I tried a DVD+R 4.7GB Sony to just make a copy of a US V10 disk and it didn't work. It just said something like cannot read Nav disk. I think I need to get the media right first and copying what you did would be a great short cut.

Re the radio, unfortunately it's FM and not AM that is affected. I'm investigating that on another thread!

Still Trying to get a 2008 US Comand MCS to read a DVD copy!

Has anyone else had any success with this? I've tried V10 and 2006.2 nav versions on Sony +R and Imation -R DVD disks. All I get is 'Cannot read Navigation DVD'

Does anyone know if there is some sort of copy protection in these Alpine units, or if there is a certain DVD format they like?

Your burn speed should not exceed 4x otherwise the system will not read it. Try to burn at slower speeds.

I'm interested! So if I get the DVD system, then it should function properly showing US maps and all that good stuff right? And I'll also be able to watch videos on it as well? Would I need any wiring?

I was planning on retro-fitting the OEM nav in my X5, but it would need to be rewired and that was the majority of the cost.

Thanks for your help!

So is the cracked DVD essentially this:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ro-comand.html

If so, I'll try and scrape together some money and buy it off of you.

Yes, the OP of that thread was kind enough and sent me a copy of the DVD. However, I never got a chance to find out if it really works tho since I already had the US spec comand installed by the time.
