will this work with the OEM iPod Kit?
how difficult is the install? did you place the GPS antenna below the center speaker grill?

I don't have the iPod kit so I am not sure about that. The install was pretty easy. I followed the DIY and it only took me about 20 minutes to replace and put everything back together. The antenna is below the center speaker grill.

COMAND: Euro or US
Hey guys. I've been trying to do some research and have read several forums regarding Euro commands. But I can't seem to find any thread that can tell me much about the US command. Everyone seems to prefer or atleast mostly install Euro command but not too many are installing US commands. Besides not having the TV out or DVD source option, is there any advantages/disadvantage with the US. I know with the US I wouldn't need to burn a hacked DVD nav and I assume I can play a CD and use the Nav at the same time since it has separate slots for each. The advantages with Euro is the ability to add a dvd player or audio/video source or TV tuner using a pretty pricey adapter for each. I assume these are the only reason the Euro command is more popular. I have a chance to buy both at about $800 each but I'm not sure which to get Any additional input is appreciated. TIA.

2005 Mercedes C230 Sport Sedan (W203)
Here's a quick breakdown:
US Comand:
- Nav works without any hack.
- No option for OEM video input.
Euro Comand:
- AM channel spacing is off so 20% of AM stations won't work.
- Has option for video input, though doing this the OEM way is very expensive and there are much cheaper third party options that actually work on both the US and the Euro comand.
I know there are a few others but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Here's a tip... if you can, get a 2006+ US comand unit and you'll get MP3 playback off burned CD's.

Thank you very much Nick for all your helpful information! Also thank you Lao for your input. It looks like I'll be going with the US comand and picking it up today
Nick. Do you have any additional info on 3rd party application for video input?

GPS antenna
I've seen several GPS antenna on ebay but I'm not sure which to get. There are 2 types I see. One is the stock one but there's a cheaper one for $9.99 but it has a square connector. Will this one work?

nickgailloux: I just bought a Euro Comand, so thanks in advance for the DIY. My question is, does the date of the US map disk matter? I've got a 2005.1 US DVD. The seller told me it's a 2006 Comand and 2006 navi DVD, but I'm not sure if it's dual layered or not.
And another quickie, you didn't mention this in your DIY, but did you burn the hybrid DVD as a region 2 (UK/Europe) or a region 1 (US/Canada)?
Thanks in advance.

HELP NEEDED
Hello to all,
I'm trying since a long time to create a hybrid dvd in order to be able to use my US comand (MCS II from CLK500 2005) in Europe.
Unfortunately the important screenshots are missing.
Can anyone explain how it was possible to create a hybrid dvd? US 2 Europe or Europe 2 US?
I would really appreciate your help!

V3 Razr European phone works on US Comand
I imported a CLK500 from US to Europe. I had the Cradle for the Motorola Razr V3 which I was using in the US.
Back in Europe I also wanted to use a Razr and to be able to use telephone function in comand.
So I bought a cheap "old" Razr V3 and modded it to a software known to work (MB website).
And it works! Which means it does not matter which BT cradle you have (US or European version), just depending on the software it should work.
I'm really happy. If anyone wants more specific details please let me know... I'm happy to share

Use of MCS II in Europe
When I was using my car in Europe with MCS II and a navigation DVD 2004.1, showing the map or putting an address was not possible.
So I burned a DVD and changed only the CDA0.AR1 file and CDA0.AR2 file with of course reamed files ...DB_GDB and ...DB_XAC. The big file .BAS I changed with the one I've found in the HAWAII folder.
Now something has changed. The navigation DVD burned myself is initializing (endless). But when I put in the original US navi DVD, then I can see the map (although I'm in the middle of nowhere). I can also navigate home and it shows me the distance (the home I've put in the US).
I think I'm pretty close to have a working solution... Can anybody help?

I dont know of anyone who has made a working US-Euro hybrid, however, I and a few people before me have successfully made a Euro-US hybrid. Here's the link, some of this info may be useful for what you need.
