Talking Seatbelt light not working...

Anyway, I guess I'm bored at work.

It comes up when I start the car for 3 seconds then it dissapears, some people would think is a great enhancement but like I said, I'm bored at work.

What should I do?

well i know on the 01 it does that but the 2002 and up should keep blinking till you put your seatbelt on. i would think that if it was the sensor the light would not come on at all after you started your car or you would have an srs error. some one with an 02 c230 should be able to tell you what their car does. btw what is the build date on your car. from my understaing in 2002 to get a 5 star crash test rating mercedes added the seat belt warning.

I just checked my 02 Coupe. The light comes on and stays on for about 2 seconds then goes off. The Multi-Function Display was replaced with the newer version under warranty, and I can't remember if it acted differently before that. Yours is acting the same as mine is.

...a panty dropper...
My 02 does it for a few seconds but doesnt stay on and thats the way its always been. I think its 10x better than an annoying tone going off every 10 seconds!!!

If you had a defective seat or seatbelt buckle sensor the SRS light would be on. In my 05 it is persistent if either front occupant isn't buckled, which I think is great. I only wish it monitored the back seat as well. What good does it do front occupants to wear belts if they allow rear ones to go unbelted and thus become projectile? Anyway, I digress.

I don't have any SRS warning light on at the moment, the seatbelt light just comes up for a couple of seconds and then it goes away. Granted, the warning sound in my car is not a pleasant one (i.e. when you leave your key on and you open your door, it's very annoying) but I was wondering if that is normal or not.

Mercedes warning sounds are not pleasant in general. Are you talking about the buzzer? Your 02 is behaving normally as far as the seatbelt light goes for that year.

Meh, what do you know... all this time I thought that the seatbelt light should've been on (when the seatbelt is not fastened) with the buzzer going at it like any other car I've seen...

THE C350
ok that is wired because i thought that they changed that so that they could get a better star rating. i will have to reread all that info maybe they did it late 02 or something. anyone with an 03 that does more than stay on for a few seconds then turn off? i actually like not having another annoying beep. i will not move the car until everyone in it has their seatbelt on. So I don’t really care if my car tells me or not.

I have been noticing this and had read the 06 c230 manual and it does say about the following:

1. turn on key first time and it will buzz and blinks, then turns off if either occupants are plugged in.

2. blinks and stays on after 30 secs

3. blinks and stays on after 60 secs

4. stays on indefinitely until either occupants are plugged in.

The last 2 days (when I had a chance to drive the car more after getting it back), I notice it didn't do this. Does #1 and turns off indefinitely.

My sold 04 does the same as what I have currently. Turns on buzz blinks and turns off after 30 secs. Doesn't matter if you are belted in or not. The 04 manual didn't say it will stay on though.

As of the 06, it does, and i am wondering if something is wrong or broken. Any more owners can confirm if it does stay on until plugged in as the manual suggests?

Are you not wearing your seatbelt?

My 05's light comes on at start and the car makes a series of beeps. After myself and the front passenger seat occupant are buckled the light goes out. If one of us doesn't buckle, it will start to flash and beep faintly once the car starts moving and will do this until the belts are fastened.

Yes, I do have my belts on. Just wanted to test the issue and it seems I have the issue of it not warning me about the belts.

Not of a nuisance, but more of irritating since it does not work as per manual says it should or comparable to other cars.

Alright. I had attached a page from the 2006 c230 manual. Does say it should remain lit if not plugged in.

Perhaps this is a "All World Mode" and our cars are set in "US Mode" where it only chips and blinks for 6 secs and goes away?

Well, I like to get to the bottom of this.

That manual page you posted, 04mb, is exactly how my car behaves. This is the normal function.

If you wear your seatbelt and so do your passengers, then it will be easy to ignore that it doesn't behave as normal. As long as there are no SRS warnings, you're good.

I say this because there is ultimately nothing you can do about it unless you have access to a STAR computer and someone with lots of knowledge to tinker with it (and probably lots of money) - all so that a seatbelt light WILL flash and beep when you don't wear the belt.. even though that's never the case since you're always wearing the belt?

Things could be a lot worse.
