LILBENZ230's 2005 C230K SS Adventures Thread

If it feels more "fuzzy" then there's a chance you got the real deal
Got the filters a few days ago and had to send them back because they were paper, not fleece. even though the part number on the box matched the number I had for fleece filters. Needless to say, I was not a happy camp, as they told me I would be getting fleece. Called the store, talked to the Assist. GM and he told me that MB sends him whatever they decide, and he has no choice. As long as it fits the application, the parts and tech guys do not pay attention to the composition of the filter, just the fact that it fits and carries the correct part #.
Just to be sure so I don't go through this again, I gave him the part number 2711800109 (which is SUPPOSED to be the correct number for the fleece filters), he went back to the storeroom grabbed that box with the matching number, but upon further specific questioning over the phone, it appears from his description that it too is a paper filter, just like what they sent me. Ugh!!!!!

He was cool about it, and told me that they are at the mercy of MB for parts of this nature. Sometimes, they are notified in advance of any product or numbers changes, sometimes MB just sends them stuff as they wish, and as long as it fits the app, they use it and don't question it.
He also told me that we, the consumers, are far more up to date on this kind of stuff through these forums than the dealers, which did not make me feel very secure. He admitted that he is not even sure if he would know the difference between paper and fleece, as they just check to make sure the numbers match the application. Great!
SO, back to square one again. It looks like I will have go back to my old resource, my German intern who brings them back for me from Germany when she goes home to visit. Kind of a long and roundabout way to go to get fleece filters, but I have spent countless hours searching the internet looking for anyone who carries them with no luck.
I might consider seeing if she could have her family in Germany help me with a group buy for those interested if the logistics are not too great, but need to do more research on going that route before I try something that ambitious.
Still open to suggestions from anyone else if they have a better idea?????????????
I have to go to San Francisco in the morning, so I am going to stop at each dealership along the way and personally see if the filters they say they carry match the part number and visually inspect each to see if they are fleece or paper.
Want to see if this is an isolated issue with a single dealership or is common with other dealerships as well. Since the first place I ordered them from was in Maryland, and I am clear across the US in California, just curious to see if everyone is on the same page or not. Probably wasting my time, but you don't know until you ask, so I will report back my findings this weekend.
I had a custom set of fleece filters made for my velocity stacks for my Nova drag car, so I know the difference between paper and fleece. Stay tuned....................

On that note, is the alarm really 130db? Because mine seems hardly noticeable when it has went off in the past.
250th post!!!
Can't say anything for sure, but judging by the way you type and write, you seem like a decent fellow.
Is your car modified in a particularly offensive way (big hip-hop/rap music chrome wheels can be considered offensive)? Potentially offensive decals or bumper stickers or license plate? Are you in less desirable neighborhoods often? Do you keep your windows open with loud music prevalent? Do you drive in an odd manner (constant weaving, aggressive driving, extreme acceleration/braking)?
These are perhaps questions to ask yourself. If you answered "no" to each one of them, then I have to say your experiences are bizarre.
My advice to you is this; safety is the priority, make sure you and your property are safe at all times. Don't go to bad neighborhoods.
Best of luck to you Matt.

Patrick, as Drew said, it is bone stock. The one modification I did have that was offensive given the predominantly poor, white, rural area I live was my Human Rights Campaign "Vote Obama" sticker my Benz wore through December last year. It's sad when you have to worry that expressing your beliefs on your car would cause it to be vandalized. I see lots of cars in this area with lots of things I find offensive, however, freedom of speech and expression is something I hold dear. I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend your right to say it.
That being said, the few incidents that have happened to my car have all been recent when the only thing on my Benz is an Apple/Mac sticker. I know which parts of Atlanta to avoid, but here in rural GA.. the creatures come out at night.

Edit: Maybe it's revenge of the Vista Users?
I am still determined to find out if this is the norm for other dealerships concerning this part, so I will post my findings on Saturday.
I ordered the filter, part # 2711800109 from www.getmercedesparts.com AND I went to the San Francisco Dealer and bought the same filter. They are IDENTICAL, i.e. the paper one. FYI the san francisco dealer charges $24 for the filter, whereas the website charges half that.
here are the pics.

Please stop littering the forum and my thread with nonsense.
