In a few years, I'm moving to an apartment in Atlanta. I'm done with rural. In Atlanta both my cars will be considered basic and no one will target them randomly like they do here in BFE.

 

Yeah... I have moved to Ponte Vedra Beach for school. My car is a piece of **** compared to just about every other car there. One guy's daily driver is a Maseratti, another's is an SL65 AMG... both brand new. And that about the average for everyone. My car gets no looks.

 

Yes, very pretty area. At least you don't have to worry about people doing stuff to your car for no reason. My poor car has had such bad luck lately.

 

I hope your luck gets better. Or you can just ride the bus.

 

Both cars get a lot of attention, some welcomed, some unwanted. A guy asked me today if the BMW was fast, was it a 6pd, was it twin-turbo, said he'd seen it in MotorTrend. He was nice enough. The other night at Waffle House I spotted a guy (obviously drunk), leaning over the Benz trying to read the "G. DAIMLER" sticker.. I had to walk outside and ask him to step away from my car. The 135i replaced a black/tan 08 G37 coupe which got attention just not as much.

 

I'm really falling in love with your BMW. When I first saw the 1 series cars, I thought they looked a bit odd, but it's grown on me alot. I think it's great in black, and I had no idea it was that fast. I also really like the G35s and 37s, but they're not quite as special, you see a bunch around. I think the C is a magnet for drunks. I've had to shoo a few off downtown in Gainesville.

 

I like my faceoff signature pic. I can imagine them comparing features. As different as they are, they've got a lot of general things in common. Like both are forced induction, both whole-heartedly Germane, both have big brakes (Benz has biggest rotors) with Brembo calipers (6-pot BMW, 2-pot Benz) - and they're similarly equipped as far as options go. The BMW was $300 over invoice ($38,550 total) and has free maintenance for 4/50k - it is a Sport-Premium. It was a good deal. I paid $19,500 for the C230 in July of 2008 w/25k miles on the clock and in showroom condition (and it remains pristine).

 

I think it's mostly the rural areas that this happens ...

In SF, no one takes a second look at my car as it's pretty common/not expensive.

But in Davis... I must've run in 3 groups of people just do stupid **** for no reason.

First time it was just outside a fast food joint.
I parked my car, went in to order my food. I hear some high school girls, they were african american, talking crazy loud and just about making fun of everyone.
When they got up to leave, I was suspicious when I was eating my food, so I looked outside. (I'm not racist, but I was worried. I'm always paranoid about my car. If you ever ride with me, or everyone that has ridden with me knows I park like just about anything will try to hit me)

Sure enough, one of them had their entire hand on my fender.
I have no idea what the hell she was doing, but I just bolted out of the fastfood joint with my food sitting in a stall and just said "Hey. Could you not touch my car!?"

Apparently, they were out to **** me off and had the nerve to actually say, "Well there's a puddle here."

She was using my car as a god damned hand rail!!
I was pissed the **** off at this point, but I kept my cool.
So I said, "Don't touch my car."

She gets her hand off, but just to **** me off she puts her entire hand on the fender again and bolts off towards her other three friends down the parking lot..
There was a greasy hand-mark from her sloppy *** eating..

There were 5 of them, and one of them were on the other side of the car.
Both bolted after the fat one in the front touched my car the second time... I was soo tempted to chase, but against 5 girls. What would I do? Hit them? If I caught one of them, the other 4 could do something worse to my car.


This happened... 2 months ago~
Probably... a few weeks after that I finally noticed a white line on my car that isn't deep, but it's not exactly scrubbing off on the side of the car that I couldn't see during that confrontation... At least it looks like it's a shiny line from the sun. It's not visible until you're like... a foot away and looking at the right angle.
I guess I'm lucky it wasn't some crazy deep gash.

This was the first time anything has happened to me. I mean, I'm a pretty big dude that can handle myself, so no one has really intentionally tried to make me mad before.



The second time was after I got my exhaust driving towards downtown. And I take the shortcut, which is the street next to the Davis High School (I guess), and once again... the local black high schools had the nerve to jay-walk right in front of me going ~30mph?
I was in a happy mood that day. (Recently put in the exhaust)
So I stopped, and waited like.. 20 seconds for them to walk slowly past. One of them started shaking his *** at me. I probably could've gotten out of the car with my bat and put a whoop *** on all 4 of them at once. But then my car would've probably been damaged at some point.



And just last night. A bunch of mexicans in this MASSIVE lifted 4x4 started making soo much noise when I drove up to the stop light I could hear them over my closed windows and music. And they just started point and laughing at me.
I was merely confused. Then the 4x4 just booked it
Made a turn onto the same freeway I was getting onto and floored it. It was child's play to just pass him with 3 people in the car and a trunk full of random luggage... I thought he would've killed me
(Wish I had a c55 though. Would've made him look like he was parked)

I'm just glad they didn't throw something at me when they booked it at the turn


I even get hate on my bike sometimes. =/
It makes me think that this world sometimes needs some idiot-jealous-genocide. (Sorry)


Phew. This thread let me post up some things I've never had to go through before.

 

So you say you're not racist??? Just kidding. Your post reminded me... I was stopped somewhere (I think it was a shopping center) and a guy (for the record he was white LOL) walks in front of my car, but so close that he hits the front corner of my car enough that I could feel the thud. And then proceeds to yell at me and walk up to my window saying I hit him! I told him he was an idiot. Then some huge black guy walks over, grabs the guy, and in a James Earl Jones voice says "don't be messin' with him or you'll have to deal with me!" Guy runs off. The second guy turns to me and says nice ride and walks back to where he was. Had no clue who he was.

There are a lot of references to race/nationality in your post.. that might ruffle some feathers. People are people and when you categorize them it makes you appear to have prejudice. I'm just saying.. and yes, this coming from someone who implied Georgians are cousin-dating-possum-eating-inbreds. But I jest..

 

I know you're a smart guy who probably knows this already but I'm going to tell you this bit of wisdom anyway. Never let anyone approach your car that you do not know or expect. Drive away, no matter what you have to do (running the light or driving on the sidewalk).

Honestly, I was about to, but the second guy was, at that point, right in front of my car and on the *** of the first guy! And I really appreciated that, I'm not exactly a big dude.

Keyed twice and the random bumper scrape that some generous individual left me in a parking lot. You are not alone, MB drivers are often viewed as the "evil rich" by those that don't want to do better, even though they probably paid more for their clunker than I did - they just have treated theirs like crap...(you can continue the rant from here....)

Although I wouldn't mind seeing vandalism a capital crime...

Fortunately Benz & BMW products are somewhat normal here. I'm pleased I don't own a Ferrari, Lambo or Aston though (much as I would love one). They get picked on big time. Funny Porsche does not.

 

This really wouldn't surprise me, especially given where my car roams. I never have bought American and I never will. I could give a crap if the domestic car doesn't break down as often - the horrible interiors with their hard, shiny plastic and stupid looking gauges along with sloppy fit and finish sealed it for me. The big 3 can go straight to hell.

The Big 3 have been building shoddy crap for decades While Toyota, Honda & the Germans build decent cars that people aspire to owning.

They made their own bed - now they must sleep in it. I often wondered where GM would be without Avis. I used to hire a car a month from Avis at SFO when I had to come into our San Ramon headquarters from wherever I was around the world. Not once did I hire a car that I liked or did not have something wrong with it - & some had zero miles. People rave about Malibu's, Impala's & some of the big Buicks - what crap. In fairness some of the SatNav units worked well.

 

It's funny to me that Ford seems to product a pretty good product just about everywhere but the US. I don't really get it. Big Buicks SUCK!!! We rented a top-of-the-line Buick Century when we were out west (four corners area) once. We went up into some mountains and, going 60mph on a *slight* grade, flooring had no affect on the car other than making the engine louder. Cadillacs are pretty good, though. That's what we rented the next time we went west... it was much, MUCH better!

 

I had a rental 09 Pontiac G6 GT in early May while my C230 had a bumper repair after a run-in with a dog and let me tell you - what a joke! The CEO of GM may as well have flown here and slapped me in the face! They have no one to blame but themselves. I would've bought a 1993 Honda Accord for $1,000 and spent $19,000 making it like new again before I would've bought that G6 for $20,000. It was horrendous.

 

Anybody bought it yet? Is it real fleece?
