I bought my C230 back in July and I've been lurking but not posting on here. From what I can tell, it looks like I got a screaming deal on mine but I wanted to be sure. Here's the info on my car and the sale:

It's a 2005 C230 silver/gray at the time of purchase it had 25,100 miles. Carfax was clean, previous owner was a 40 month lease from February 2005 to June of 2008. All service records were with the car, every service performed at Mercedes-Benz of Pompano Beach, FL. All books and keys. Not a mark on the car inside or out. Option-wise I have the driver's power memory seats and steering column, the moonroof/autodimming mirror/rain-sensing wipers, the power rear sunshade, 6CD changer. Brand new Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto tires and since it needed brakes at the time of sale they did them at no cost. Everything works perfectly and the car looks new inside and out (at a little over 31,000 now).

The asking price was $24,499 but I paid $19,499 plus tax and title. No trade. Did I get a good deal?

I love this car. I've had a few minor issues addressed under the remaining factory warranty but overall the car seems rock solid.

Not a bad deal at all. I paid $23k for mine in August last year and didn't have memory seats. The good thing was it only had 18k miles and it still looked new. Memory seats wouldve been nice. Everyone that gets in my car wonders why for a Mercedes, they have to adjust the seats manually forward or backward. All other directions are auto. Good job on that deal.

Not a bad deal at all, and of course deals are relative to region. I am purchasing one of two 2006 C230 Sports with 19k-21k miles in 2 weeks in CA, 1 is 17,900 and the other is 17,700. Both are one owner cars, I just need to decide if I like Granite Grey or Granite Grey

Also I have to hope like hell neither get's sold, nobody wants to hold a car with deposit it seems, what's the deal with that? Guaranteed sale seems obvious in my book with a respectable deposit of course.

Don't worry about lack of memory seats - nice to have but they give trouble.

Looks like our cars are identical.

I get the same reaction with passengers and the partial-power seat on that side!

One of my issues I've had addressed once already cropped back up tonight. The damn moonroof won't auto-close. It just bounces back open. It's an annoyance but not serious.

I love the memory seat. I'm in GA, by the way. Car was purchased in Atlanta.

You need to re-synch your sunroof. It only takes a minute and you can do it without any tools. The process is on the forums, just do a search.

i had the same problem and added some lubricant to the rail and it works fine again

Not exactly the same car but similar car.... could've saved u 5k or so!!! Hey it still has drivetrain warranty too!!!

If you bought it CPO'd, then I think you got a pretty good deal. $24,999 seems to be the market price on a '05 CPO'd C230.

I've had this issue recently, and despite re-syncing the moonroof, it was still happening. Needed to get my A service done, and the stealership ended up lubing the rails, but also cleaned the obstruction sensor. So teh obstruction sensor might be another thing to look at.

I've been STFF for hours and there are lots of posts about strange noises but none that quite match the one my car has been making for a few weeks. I have a 2005 C230K with 39,900 miles.

I live in GA so it isn't ridiculously cold here, but this problem does only happen when the car is first driven after many hours of activity. I'm going to describe it as best as I can, but the noise is almost beyond description: If I am accelerating (doesn't matter how hard I'm pressing the gas) and the car hits any irregularities in the pavement it makes a groaning sound that appears to be coming from dead center in the rear of the car. The best comparison I can make is that it sounds like both rear tires are rubbing the fenders. Or, if any of you ride public transit buses and hear the drivetrain noise they make sometimes (the drone from the drive shaft). Only happens over bumps in my car, only while accelerating, and only when cold.

The car has stock-sized Michelin Pilot Exalto tires. 245/40-17 in the rear. I checked all the pressures and they were all low, so I adjusted them to 32psi cold but no dice. The car has one new strut in the rear that was replaced under warranty a few months ago - but this issue is relatively recent. Warranty is up Feb. 26th! I can complain to the dealer but I already know the answer is going to be "cannot duplicate issue".

Sorry for the long post - I am just trying to be as detailed as possible. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

There's a lot of info on the forums about rain sensing wipers. Some love them, some hate them, as can be expected with a feature like this. I really want to love this feature. I have searched and no one has ever posed this question, though:

Do old wipers, which are streaking, wreck havoc on the rain sensor?

My car's rain sensing feature is frustrating me. It always wipes too fast for the rain level. Mist will cause it to wipe continuously without pausing, and a light rain causes it to spring into the fastest setting. It hasn't always been so inept at this, so I'm thinking maybe the old wipers that are streaking are causing the rain sensor to get inaccurate readings?

Any thoughts? At the moment I can't use them because of this. I'm **** about my cars and not being able to use a feature drives me nuts!

hmmm make sure your windshield is clean and replace worm wipers with a OEM bosch set. if you are using RAIN X dont put it where the sensors are. i find the rain sensor the most usefull when i'm drivin on the highway... durin the city i sometimes experience the same experience as you g luck

I just got in from driving and even in mist and on backroads the wipers run at full speed most of the time. It's very frustrating. I haven't put rain-x on the windows, and I've cleaned it.. Not sure wtf is going on. It didn't behave this poorly before, though. I have an 05 and have some of the factory aero wipers on order.

The Operation of the wipers is effected by the following things:

Degree of wetness of the windscreen
The ambient light conditions
The vehicle speed
The outside temperature

See principle of operation attached. Anything that effects this will change operation - eg a faulty speed sensor will effect operation. On LHD cars does the wiper even wipe over the sensor area? Unless it does, wiper blades will make no difference.

According to the last document the RLS will react to smears on the windshield as if it were heavy rain. My wipers do little else than smear stuff all over the place, so maybe it is their fault. When I got the car, the rain sensor didn't have this trouble. I'm gonna replace them and hope that fixes it!

Great - I have not read it for a long time - just posted it - Does your wiper wipe over the sensor? Give the screen a darn good clean starting with Coke to remove any silicone.

Coke? Like Coca-Cola? Haha okay when I go to replace the wipers. It doesn't appear to wipe over the sensor, just very close. I'll have to test this in a bit.

Coca - Cola (or phosphoric Acid) strips off silicone brilliantly - so don't get it on the car's paint unnecessarily - Short exposure won't damage the paint but might spoil your polishing job. My logic is that if mineral deposits (salt etc) mess with the sensor - so will silicone. Silicone build up also causes wipers to smear & judder.

Just another thought. I don't know whether the wipers are supposed to wipe over the sensor or not or how this would effect things. Are your wiper blades original & are they original size?
