I totall agree with Neil, if done properly with the correct screws, pre-drilled size holes ect, you wont have any problems. When mine ripped off the screws stayed in place, simply the lip ripped off and it cracked around the screws. So yes it can be ripped off sorry Neil. oh by the way, Tower Shops on Friday, say 7?

I suggest using zip ties moosejaw.

put about 4 or so, I'm sure if the screws fall off, the lip will still be intact with the 4 zip ties.

wow...thats nuts!

I wonder why the CF lip rips off, maybe its because it "sticks out" unlike the other lips that sorta "flow with the body"

That does not make it good at all what you did. You probably over tightend the screws. You cannot be series that you screwed them in with a drill? The directions specifically state use hand tools only for that, a drill will strip the hole just like if you drilled a screw in wood. This explains clearly why yours came off. It is not even suppose to be so tight. A drill was only needed to make a small hole so the screw goes in easier. People that are willing to take a short cut or not listen to the directions will not have their lip stay on properly. We include the 3 page directions for a reason. We have sold over 950 of the C-class lips to date nationwide, and I never heard any one else besides the few who posted have theirs fall off. Again, if the directions were not followed exactly, your lip may not be secure because that is not how it was intended to be installed.

The dealer that is "trying" to fix the car is not where i bought the car from and they didn't give me anything! I am paying over 300$ a week for this Caddilac rental from enterprise rent a car.

i didnt get directions b/c mine was second hand. but i didnt over tighten em, i pretty much jus screwed them till it was flush, some of which i took a screw driver to hold the bumper flush then tighten it by hand.

Guys I have no experience at installing these lips (cool looking btw) but I would suggest running a bead of clear silicon between the lip and the bumper. The silicon holds great and will flex with movement.Btw it's in addition to to the screws not in place of.Just my 2 cents.

The silicon sounds like a good idea (at least, in my head it does).

Guys, like Neil said ( the creator of this CF lip) all you need is the screws that came with the kit, ok, yes I personally decided to use a few more extra screws, but its easy to properly install yourself. Spend a hour, no more. thats all. You dont need tape, silicon, zip ties, nothing, just some good screws with a good thread on them, no bolts and nuts, nothing!!!

The reason Moosejaw had the problem is the water. Water hit at above a certain speed can be the same as hitting a concreat wall. Water weighs a lot for what it is. I mean, air alone is like a few lbs, (sorry dont know the exacts) so that is why he had the problem, hit a good puddle, about 15 mph, lip probally dipped down into the water, had the weight of it on there and also the force from the speed. Its not a design flaw or anything.
Just my few cents

Rob

Use all of the bolts provided and there won't be any problems. My front lip has been eating **** quite a bit lately but it is still intact. RFTM!

Actually i'm kind of wondering if anyone has tried using household caulking silicone to seal the gap, so that no water can get in there at all? (I've seen it in black as well)

1984 300D turbodiesel, 07 c230
2007 c 230 breaking bolts holding wheel on

bought the car new it had aftermarket rims (I did not know this until later)
then one day I notice that 2 blolts holding the right rear on had seared off.
took the car in and they changed all the bolts on the car and told me that they torqued them on with a torque wrench. I get a call from my wife that she has a flat, she pulls over and all but one bolt has broken off 4 total only one holding it on the car. back to the dealer they are not sure of the problem.
I went down and looked at the rims and tires and the hubs. i found out that they had the wrong offset of rim and had to shim them to work 1/4" shim.
the holes in the shim are bigger then the bolt. My ? does mercedes approve of shims with there cars and could this be the problem with breaking the bolts. My gut tells me this shim and rim combo is the problem. and has anyone eles had this problem?
