Eibach Sway bars

Hi, I was just about to order Eibach sway bars for my New C320 Coupe w/ bi-xenons, when I wrote an e-mail to tirerack about the fitting of the sways on my coupe and this is what they replied: Since your car have HID lighting system the anti roll kit will not work on your car.

What's up with that guys? Please Help me! I want sways!

auto-leveling

It has to do with the fact that the auto-leveling sensor for the Bi-Xenons is mounted on the sways-assuming your Xenons are OEM. There was a thread about mounting the sensor on new sways either here or on csportcoupe.

I was the one that brought that up on this forum. Looks like the xenon autoleveling U bracket that hooks onto the front sway bar is too small after you install the Eibachs. Currently I'm using some plastic straps, but that can only be temporary.

I've looked at the AMG U brackets and they're the same size as the regular C's, so that won't work either.

Anyways, the U bracket is off by perhaps 2mm. I'm thinking about just prying the U bracket wider and fitting it on the Eibachs.

Here's the infamous U bracket troublemaker:

The specs for the front sways:

Non-AMG: 20mm
AMG: 22mm
Eibach: 24mm

So, if the bracket can fit on the AMG but not on the Eibach, it's pretty obvious that extra 2mm is the culprit.

So I can't get the Eibach sways then! Right?

Would the Amg sways work?

You can still get it if you want. Everything will fit except that xenon sensor part. You'll just have to find another way to tie it to the sway bar. I've been using one of those plastic strap ties (don't know the name of those) that's used in various other parts of the car. You just have to make sure to use ones that are UV protected, so the heat from the engine won't eventually crack it.

But... I'm pretty sure that's a temporary solution. I think I'm gonna just try prying the U bracket wider and see if it'll fit. Doesn't look very hard to do.

But yeah the AMG sway bar will pose no problems for you, non-performance-wise anyway.

Guys...guys...guys!

Go to a hardware store and get a new U-bolt. Get one for a 1" tube (24mm = .945") close enough. As long as the sensor part is slotted a bit or has large holes it should work.

Been to a couple and nobody had them. What hardware store would have this?

Thanks. I was at the local Home Depot store and they didn't have it, but online, they do.

So, what you are telling me is that if I get The AMG sway bars, I won't have to deal with that u-bolt issue?

Do the Amg Sways make a noticeable improvement over the stock ones? Is it worth it or not?

No such issue if you get the AMG sways.

But... the problem isn't a big one to begin with... besides, it looks like U bolts are a dime a dozen. Just have to find one that can fit around a 24mm (in diamete) sway bar. Seems pretty simple really.

Yup. I noticed it when I test drove the C32 AMG. But, nothing beats the Eibach though. On my stock 16 inch wheels and suspension, the car is flat as can be. Just wait till I get my H&R and wheels.

Ok, so now I have two choices:

1- 18in. AMG style III wheels + Eibach springs+ Amg sways
2- 18in. Amg style III wheels + Eibach sway bars only

Which one should I go for? (Handling wise)

Oh, by the way, what's the difference between a one-piece and a multi-pieced wheel? weight?

I think the AMG sways and the pro kit are a good combination...why don't you try doing a forum search for sways or PM Buell... he has that combination

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
Handling wise, go for the cup kit and Eibach sways.
Don't expect a great ride.

AMG sways and Vogtland springs= big improvement,
but with lots of room to go further.
(Thats what I did)

1 week after completeing the install, I feel like it's stock (or shoulda been), but know I had to work for it.

Yeh, if handling is what you want, go further.
AMG sways are more like better stock.

More like a Bimmer stock.
