Just bought the fluid, filter, gasket, bolts, and standoff pipe. My service is due sometime next month. I now have a STAR system, so I will show how to use that to check level as well. I will probably video tape it as well. Stay tuned.

Where did you get the STAR? ones I was looking for but in turn out to be a bit expansive , $7500 I guess was for used one, and the prices were going to 15000 and more. probably ones from china some where around $1000 .
Any way, waiting, how much fluid did you buy, and will you follow the process described earlier on this tread?

Bought 2ea 4L bottles of ATF here: http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe..._F84D7082.aspx
Yes, I will follow the process I described earlier which is possible w/o a STAR system. I will also add the fluid check procedure for people that have access to STAR.

That what I am considering to do, last transmissions service the dealer could find was done at 39K so I will do a complete flush, because I have 106K now. TITAN meet the spec but I was going with Genuine mercedes do you think it's a big difference? where titan is made?

I need to do this ASAP. I'm at 43k still with same fluid. John didn't you have a DIY somewhere? You changed your buddy's tranny fluid huh?
For some weird reason when I say tranny it reminds me of Mike

Does this oil can be used on the 722.6(5-speed) tranny? I think I read that it works...

I did the full flush at 120K.
My tranny was clunking and shifting like crap.
New Fluid and filter fixed up like new.
I'm at 153K now, and the problem has not returned.
I'm going to flush it again sometime soon....like within the next 10K miles.
just for good measure.
On this forum, it seems the experience from those who have done the full flush is generally a good one, resolves problems.
If it blew up after flushing, likely it was because the correct materials must be used,
and our tranny's have very special fluid specific to Mercedes 5 & 7 speed trannies.
Be sure to replace the orings, order one of these...

That's interesting. I've had a number of people post that doing a complete flush and fill ruined a trans (not on this forum). If there is a lot of grit/etc in the fluid, and it is replaced with new clean fluid, that too much friction material is now gone and the trans dies shortly afterwards.
I would like to think that a full flush is always good, but after have both techs and people post the above, I'm not too certain either way. I would imagine just do it at the right interval and it's not a problem.![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

As an oil industry man I can assure you that you can never change auto fluids too often. New fluid will never cause the multi wet plate clutches to slip in a box that is in good condition - it will prolong their life. The fluids all have friction modifiers in them to allow a controlled amount of slip before lock up. This additive becomes depleted over time. Change Benz auto boxes at max 60,000 miles. In many torrid markets they recommend every 60,000 Kms. If you know you drive hard or tow with the vehicle then halve that drain interval.
