Electrical Question

So I have been battling the "drifting mirror" problem in my 320 for about 4 years. Everytime I bring it in the dealership says they cant reproduce the problem for at least 2 weeks then they finally end up replacing either some sort of switch or the "memory module" that controls the 12-way seat functions, mirrors, etc... That has been replaced twice. Well I brought the car in about a month ago for some warranty work and to have them attempt to fix the mirror issue again. They replaced a switch and when I got the car back the problem was actually worse. So I brought it back and told them I dont want the car back until this is fixed. I got numerous calls saying they couldnt reproduce the problem then finally this past friday they called to say they were able to reproduce the problem but now there was a new problem. After they decided to replace this "memory module" again all of "the computers in the car stopped talking to each other". At this point I dont have any other info than that. Sounds like they fried my wiring harness. Any thoughts??

I agree 100% that it's their problem. Just wondering how much of their problem is going to now turn into my problem months down the road. I know wiring harness issues in these cars is not a good thing.

What year is your car? The C320 went on up to 2005. The early C-class cars 2001-2002 were nightmares. Definitely stay on them and make sure they fix it correctly. If it is repaired correctly, maybe you'll never have another issue. It's impossible to guess what might happen to your car down the line - but if this is repaired correctly that's the best you can do.

It's an 01 and I agree with the "nightmare" comment. Have had almost $10k in repairs done to that car in the last 5 years. Almost all covered by warranty at least. I'll be getting rid of the car in Dec as soon as the waranty is up.

Is that all? ONLY 10 grand?

That nothin'. Stay on 'em. My car was in the shop constantly till all the bugs got worked out. Now it's pretty solid...knock on wood.

Of course I've come to discover that many of the repairs the dealers claim they made were never done. It's funny how the dealers are ripping of the
mothership, but they do. A lot.
