ok so i go get in my car to find that its not unlocking via the remote. i point the remote at the door handle and i did hear it click open but no side indicator flash. i then turned the car on to find the " visit workshop display faulty". the trunk will not unlock with the remote or the door button.
the turn signal lights dont turn on even when i press the hazard button.
experts and ideas on wtf is going on?

if it is the rear sam you really have to get it fixed at the dealer or a shop with a star machine plus the knowledge on working it. and i think the sam is like 1000 if you search around the forum you should be able to find prices. btw have you unhooked the battery recently or had to replace a fuse. sorry about your problem hopefully it is an easy fix. if you put your location in your profile we can help find a shop to take a look at your car. hope this helped

the dealer called me back stating it was going to be 1200 to replace the rear sam..
I told them that i did not have the money and would pick up the car.. I think $1200 is way to much... if i get a used one with the same model would it be plug and play or do i still need to get it programmed?.
thanks

why did they change the price on you? or was 780 for parts only? i am almost 100% sure it needs programing to work. the used on might not work either but i dont know if mercedes lets you reprogram a sam after it has been programed to one car. i know that the instrument cluster after 1000 miles or something cant be changed to another car. hopefully someone on here knows more about the sam's then i do. i thank god i have not had a problem with mine. when my battery goes i will have the dealer put a new one in or have roadside do it or jump me. i will never do it myself. yes i know that is crazy but if you search there has been way to many people blowing sams. good luck

yeah some how they said that the total with tax would come up to about 1200. so i decided not to get the it done. I went a got the SAM from the parts department for 289.00. I plugged it in my self and as i read in one of the post everything works fine except the gas gauge. im schedule to go to an independant small shop that specialises in MB. they guy there will do the programing for me. FYI... its really simple to replace the rear sam.

same thing happend to my car last year. took it to mb of larchmont. they said it was the rear sam too but after fixing the sam the problem was still there. if your having a problem also turning the key its probably the eis system and thats about a $1300 job. also since it looks like your in ny, can u let me know where that independent small shop that specializes in MB is. thanks

ok, just got my car back, the rear sam was programed and my srs light was reset from an earlier radio installation issue.. all for $100.
so for those of you who blow the sam like me by jump starting it... please avoid going to the dealer...... yes go buy the SAM at the dealer.. i got it for $289. i plugged it in my self (really simple) and then contact a local MB specialist like i did.
SAM $289
SAM installtion FREEEE
SAM programming $100
total $389
dealer was asking for $1200

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. It's a great feeling not getting ripped off. $900 in labor for a 15 min. job is straight stealing

I was replacing my fuel filter today and per the Chilton repair manual one of the first steps was to remove the negative battery cable. I replaced the filter and hooked my battery back up only to find all the symptom of a blown rear SAM. I've searched the forums but haven't seen any posts on how to replace the SAM. It appears it can be replaced and then taken to a MB shop or stealership for programming. Is this the case? Where can I find a new SAM?
Thanks!
Thanks!

A lesson to be learned on jump starting these cars. Especially older ones. The SAM's are fragile.

Update - Ordered a new rear SAM from RM European, $240. Installed it myself (free) and then took it to Elite Auto Care Inc in Seattle for coding, $100. Not bad considering what others have said the dealership will charge. Stealership wanted $150 just to code.
