anyone diy charge thier a/c on the m271 yet?

ive used the search dont worry..

gonna try to recharge my a/c today. gonna get a kit from autozone or something. although i want opinions from people who have done this. or should i get it done somewhere?

all this because when i start the car and step on the gas abit for a split second there's a shaky whistle sound. instinct i checked my belts, they were ok. but after a few more steps on the pedal, it was gone. searched around here and seems that low a/c refrigerant can cause this. and come to think of it my a/c is not ice cold anymore. really takes time to get cold. so im gonna start with the a/c. hopefully this fixes the temp problem and the whistling problem.

Get the kit with the gauge, since if your AC still gets cold there's enough of a charge to turn on the compressor, and adding 1 full can of R134a will over-charge the system.

I'm willing to bet you have a stepper motor/linkage issue. Turn on the AC and check all the vents for cold air, if you find the passenger side colder than the driver's side, then that explains why its taking a long time to get cold, the AC flaps aren't opening.

yeah i read the whole thing and its not that.. i brought it to an independent mb shop and said it was either belt or tensioner. definitely not the belt coz it looks great. and it only makes the sound when the a/c is on. if it was the tensioner will wd40 fix it? lol! ghetto!

Personally, I would avoid DIY ac charging unless you were an ac shop. Its way too expensive to play around with the compressor. I paid over $2000 for a new ac compressor last year at an independent shop because MB wanted over $2400 to fix.

thanks! ok. someone told me that if your a/c needs to be charged it only means there is a leak. he said the freon is suppose to be lifetime. true or not true? also the a/c on this car was never ever touched. so everything is oem.

You have a leak, most likely from the condenser as it was poor quality on the 2003s.
