replacing headlight lens?

i have a '01 c240 with the stock frosted lens on the headlight. i came across this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...=p4506.c0.m245

i was wondering if changing to a clear lens would affect the light visibility or pattern? ive done a little reading on here but still not sure if this would be a smart move or not. thanks.

Yes it will. On non projector type headlamps, the Fresnel type lens is part of the lamp focusing system. If you look at the new 2005? onward face lift clear lens lights they have very different reflector designs than the "frosted" lights. How big the difference is I'm unable to say but I would expect some strange light scatter.

I'd be more worried about the covers not fitting properly, and water getting into your headlights like a cheap GM.

Alrite, let me revise that.

I fitted clear covers off OEM clear halogens to my frosted housings and it was pefect fit. It's been fine for 3 months now.

Assuming that EBAY lens is like OEM clear lens, it would fit fine

Sorry, I misled you there
