Engine Motor Mount and Transmission Mount Question/Suggestions?
Hi,
New to the board here. Just wondering if I could get some of your opinions on wether or not to do this service or and if so, if i should just get it done at the dealership or take it to an indy.
2005 C230k Sedan
Mileage: 123,331
Purchased: Sep 2004
Only 1 owner since purchase
Went in to the dealership to get my Fuel Filter replaced. They did the normal 21 point inspection and mentioned that...
1.) Both Engine Mounts are leaking and need to be replaced
2.) Transmission Mount has collapsed?
They quoted me $850 parts and labor included to service both. I'm not familiar with these services and wanted to know if this was a fair price to do or not? Is this something that happens to the car with this much mileage and only a 5 year old car? Is that normal?
If you guys think i have to replace both I have one of those 50 off your service with us (at this dealership) so it would cost me 800 at the end of the day. Is that a fair price or am i better off going to an indy?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My 2005 C230 had its transmission mount collapse at like 40,000 miles. It affected drivability, though it was subtle and I realized after the repair how much smoother it should be. It also caused a scraping noise over bumps that came from the transmission tunnel.
Get it fixed. But you're always better off going to an indy. Mine was replaced under warranty but the part was just like $81.

What about the motor /engine mounts? Any suggestions on if that is necessary or not?
Any idea how much labor is involved with the transmission mount. at 125/hr for labor. I want to make sure im not getting ripped.

Ok cool.
And also, out of curisosity. Is it ok to keep driving for a week or two? Im short on time to drop off car at the indy/dealership to get these items fixed. My car isnt going to break down on the road if i go a week or two without the repair done yet? Or will it?

Do the replacements. You don't have to pay dealer prices - get the spares on line & go to an Indy

Let us know if you can tell improvements in drivability? My car's collapsed transmission mount really made me hate it for a bit, which is unusual, as I typically adore this thing.

drive-ability seems alot more smoother.
previously. backing up out of my driveway or driving down hills and making turns cause the car to vibrate a bit.
now, no vibration.
ill report more as the week goes along.
where is the location of the 2 engine mounts and transmission mounts? is it visible under the car or thru the top of the engine bay?
just wanted to see where the repairs were done

week and a couple days...
car definitely feels better. i drive through rough streets in LA.. tons of potholes everywhere.
any acceleration feels smooth now.
still no vibration when backing up... im expecting to feel it. but i cant..
seems like a fair and good repair.... anyways.. can anyone point out the location of the transmission mount and engine mounts so i can locate them in the car? or is it not visible w/o lifting the car up?

Motor mounts are a necessary fix. The parts should be around $125 per mount. It's the labor that is more painful, typically between $350-450 for the install at the dealer.
I've seen motor mounts go bad at 40,000 miles and at 55,000 miles. Getting over 100,000 miles is a good thing.
