EBC Sport Rotors and Akebono Pads...pics!

Akebono prints what they call a "friction code" on the back of the pads, which happens to be same as another model of pads for Nissans and Mercurys.
I was pissed, thought the seller had screwed up but he hadn't.
My local mechanic told the pads were gone like 10K miles ago, when I had the brake fluid flushed...
I checked them, they seemed low, but fact is over 1/2 of the pads were left!
Well, when you're sitting there parts in hand, and ready to go, WTF?
I figure, these brakes will last longer the the car at this point.
I'm at 143K miles. The old brakes, just plain Textar or something, lasted 70K, and coulda gone another 50 I think, so with ceramics, it's likely they'll last 150K miles on the rear....
total cost was around $200.
So, here's a few pics. Just got back from doing the bed in procedure, while not specifically for Akebono, I got it around here somewhere.
They don't stay gold for long!
"The following procedure is called “bedding in” your brake pads – it helps reduce brake noise and makes the pads last longer.
- From a speed of 30 to 40 mph, brake gently until the car almost stops.
- Reaccelerate to 30 to 40 mph; stay there for 30 to 40 seconds while the brakes cool.
- Repeat this routine five times with no sudden or hard stops.
- Next, take the car up to 55 mph and brake gently down to 20 mph.
- Wait the same 30 to 40 seconds for the brakes to cool.
- Repeat this four times.
- Do not drive vehicle for one hour to allow the rotors to cool. "

I was drooling over the brakes they had on display at the Ferrari booth at Pebble...
2 piece, vented, drilled, ceramic rotors, about 15-17" wide...
I was guessing they cost 10 grand each?
or more....?
nice write up as always.
I did a different bed-in process btw instruction from stoptech when I replaced the front rotors. it was a series of eight 60mph to 10mph brakes follow by allowing the rotor and pads to cool for 10min driving around and then another series of the 60 to 10mph stops and you are done. one thing is never to sit on the brakes when they're hot.

from my search the 2005-2007 C230 sport they have those HB504Z.740 or HB504F.740 according to Hawks website. but then again they list these two number for C280 and C350 as well. so I think those are for the regular non-sport brakes.
and EBC pads shows a different design. you could just get the EBC redstuff. they're also ceramic.

Not true with regards to the Akebono statement. They DO in fact make front ceramic brakes for our cars. Benzito, I believe you have the same car as me, a 2005 C230 Sport Sedan. I recently replaced my front brakes and rotors, and replaced them with Akebono pads and Zimmerman rotors. So I know they make them for the 2 piston front calipers.
There is some confusion as to what pads work for our fronts, I think mostly because some of the Sport models come with the AMG 4 piston calipers (2004 - 2004.5 and even some very early 2005 MY). I managed to get the facts straight as far as which akebonos work for the 2 piston calipers from a guy I spoke to over at placeforbrakes.com. For the 2005 2-piston calipers, you need to get the Akebono EUR1121. They're $77.80 with free shipping, include the anti-squeal paste, and also include 2 brake sensors (which are the correct ones for our cars, unlike some other akebonos people have been buying which had the sensor for the Crossfire SRT6, which is incompatible with our cars). Linky is here: http://www.placeforbrakes.com/produc...&car_year=2005
When comparing the stock OEM pads with the Akebonos, they look exactly the same.
Frank, when bedding in my new rotors and pads, I followed the same stoptech procedures you did above. Worked great. I also flushed my brake fluid with M-B OEM DOT-4+ fluid. I wouldn't recommend going with anything else. It's only about $15 at the dealership for 1 quart.
These new akebonos feel very much like stock. The only difference is the infernal brake dust is TOTALLY gone. So much so that the rear wheels (which still have the OEM pads) get FAR dirtier than my front wheels.

You still get a little dust with Akebono's, but not much.
The gold plating is wearing off the rotors, they're a nice shiney silver now.
I like the look of the design. It really goes well with the front, and much better than risking cracks drilling solid rotors.
Your coupe looks great by the way. I am in need of some new rear brake pads and am thinking of going with the akebono pads.

looks like they have the best prices with free shipping etc.
I wish I had found that place!
autopartswarehouse.com has the best price on the solid rear EBC rotors
at like 20 bucks!
Those dimples add a lot to the price!
Use the promocode 'ready4summer' if you buy from them.

ha....that really about it! You'll be unlikely to notice the difference on rear brakes that much.
I mean, they're already sticky as hell, barely need to touch them.
Maybe even moreso now. Havn't tried to see what happens in a panic stop yet, just letting the brakes settle.
I've wanted something to match the fronts since i put AMG's on..
this looks like just the ticket.
Not good to drill solid rotors...

The link you have is for EUR779.
