Rain Sensors

Hey Everyone...

I just got back from camping and i was messing around with my car and i found out that my car has rain sensors... What i did is i checked my vin number.. and it told me all the options i have on my car.. I also went to the dealer to have them look.. They also said i have rain sensors...

But the rain sensors don't work.. ill flip the knob to position 1 And they still come on by them selfs.. I dunno if its the sensor... Or a bad windshield that was replaced when i got bricks tossed through it..

Ive taken the sensor apart and tried cleaning it.. but no go.. Ive searched and found nothing about rain sensors.. anyone wanna chime in.. I think this is a cool feature thats a must.. Just like rolling up the windows with your key fob..

Thx
Kris

When I had my windshield replaced, my rain sensing wipers worked, but not near as good as they did before the replacement. So, when my car was in for warranty work, I had them "recalibrate" the rain sensor, and after that, they worked perfectly again. Maybe you need to take it to the dealer and have them hook up STAR and recalibrate the rain sensor.

Thanks for the info

I had to pay for it, since it wasn't a warranty issue. It cost a whole whopping $18. It literally took them about 5 minutes.

Fixed the rain sensors WOOOT this is so cool ive never seen anything so dope before...

The issue was the unit wasn't making full contact with the windshield... all i did was push it on harder and it works perfect now =P heres a picture of it

The unit on the right wasn't fully on the windshield...

But im still trippin about the air bubble if you guys can see it..

What the different between the new sensor(lots of dots) and the old sensor(look like blue screen with lens)?

I think maybe the newer ones have more little sensors built in to that big unit

Well at least you got it fixed. Although even when they work as designed, they only half-*** work. They're too aggressive in my car.

Matt. As long as the sensor has intimate contact with the screen, as Kris has learnt, & the outside of the screen is free of - mineral, salt or silicone deposits - The dealer can adjust sensitivity with the STAR to your liking. (within reason)

On the second pic, is that where the light sensor is located too? (for auto headlights?)

I cannot believe this...

I just popped off the cover to see if I have the rain sensor. Much to my surprise... I DON'T!! There's just a blank spot where it should be and to the left is the headlight sensor.

Why on earth would my car not have it? It has factory xenons and navigation.

Is it possible to put a rain sensor in? Easy/Hard?

Somebody said they just plugged one up without changing the windshield and it worked.

If you have the clear area in your glass & if you have the correct wiring harness & a compatible wiper controller. It is my understanding that you can have it adapted with the STAR.

On preupdated C class cars, there are 2 different sensors. One for headlights and one for the wipers. On 2005 and later cars, there is 1 sensor that controls both items. The lens for the sensor comes affixed from factory to the windsheild. There is no way to get that part alone. You have to replace the windsheild to get a new lens. The air bubble can cause a malfunction in the rain sensor.

Your car either had one of the following

1. had a sensor from factory and someone replaced the windshield with a non sensor glass without lens

2. never had it from factory.

In case of no. 2, it can be added provided you get a windsheild with lens, short harness to overhead control panel, and programming in the EIS

Thanks a lot for clarifying the issue. It is obvious that my knowledge is only for pre updated cars. Appreciate your teaching me.

when i put my wipers on auto, i notice that went theres light rain, sometimes my wipers will go at almost full speed. its pretty annoying.

will a recalibration help? can i ask them to turn down the sensitivity of my rain sensors?

its got to the point where ill just press the mist button instead on leaving it on auto
