W203 Radio Hard Wired Aux (for my iPod)
#78
Thanks to these threads, I did this to my car and it works great. But if you want to save $30 - $50, don't waste your money on the Mercedes adapter. I just cut off the white plug and spliced the wires to a cable with a phono jack on the end I routed to the glove box. Total cost was zero, since I had the cable laying around.

What we need to made with the Ground part of the RCA wires? ground them to the Radio metal chasis?
Pretty cool, someone try this mode on the Audio 10, Becker Special & Becker Exquisite units (W210, W208, W129, W168 & W163)?

I thin it worth to share my experience on this mod.
I spent full sunday and final result was -
1. burn on my index finger from soldering tool
2. SRS visit workshop (its my fault - started car with top central panel unit disconnected.) have to go to workshop to reset
3. radio was disabled - didnt turn on - appears to be fuse 64 went out. got new 10A fuse, replaced and radio was on
4. radio started to show "tape stuck" message (tape was inside)
5. I disassembled radio head unit once again and noticed that I ripped the ribbon cable..... *uck!!! In fact i broke end contacts of cable when was trying to insert it back in to socket
Checked ebay and similar looking 21 pin ribbon cable is available for $13 with delivery in 2 weeks from bangkok..... too long to wait.
So I decided to fix this cable. I cut off broken end and restored contact surface with sharp razor. Just removed really thin layer of isolation from one side and carefully inserted it back in to the socket.
Next step was to doublecheck that cable fix worked. I got simple AA battery, small lamp from kids toy and 2 wires. Using this device I checked each of 21 pins of ribbon cable - that it is working and passing current from tape module to main head unit module and it worked !
After I fixed this ribbon cable it started to work !!!! WOW music in the car!
The only problem that after 20-30 seconds radio started to turn off and show "PROD" on the screen.... bad sign.... but after I started engine it looks like this issue was gone.
So now I have AUX in working condition and I think that any issue related to this mod and "tape stuck" or other messages could be caused by broken or incorrectly connected ribbon cable.
good luck!

for cable i search the ebay, but again if you just ripped the very end of the cable - just cut this area and restore cable contacts with sharp razor.
SRS message can be reset by dealer or shop with proper equipment. They charge like $120 for this operation, - in my case I bought Chinese computer to reset the error - around same price , but now i can reset it on my own.
