Launching methods...

Has anyone tried... shifting in to neutral at a red light... revving up the engine to 2000 or 3000 rpm and when the light turns green quickly shift into D and gun it?....

Thats really bad for your tranny. I did it before and toasted my tranny. Hehe.

I think power braking is the best method. Where you hold the brake, rev it up and floor it while releasing the brake.

That would be the best way to destroy your tranny. I highly advise against it.

If you want to launch just hold down the brake pedal, push the gas to 2500rpm and let go of the brake fast while you floor it. That is power braking and works pretty well.
LOL... i know it would.. i haven't tried it.... but i was just thinking if power braking gives you a quick surge to tranny... which isn't good for the tranny as well, why wouldn't N to D while power revving be the same....

I believe MB trannys wont let you do that even if you wanted to. Try it out if you want. If you rev it wont let you put it in drive.

It wouldn't be the same because at neutral the torque converter is idling (no torque is being transfered). When you shift to D, it will take a much longer time for it to engage even compared to a "normal" launch at D.

Not to attack impressor, I like the guy, he's cool, but did anyone read the part about the ajax? or sandpaper?

I have a manual, I feather the accelerator keeping the RPMs between 3k and 3.5k. Bring the clutch out nice and easy while mashing the accelorator featering both to keep the wheels down. Straight dropping the clutch the wheels spin too much. This is with ESP off off not just pressing the ESP button. You get a nice cherp going into second, just hit the gas in mid shift.

If you wanted a good launch and good acceleration, why did you by a slushbox?

I don't get it.

AS far as an auto goes I like the BMW alot better then the MB.

Even the MB stick is awkward at first.
