Question Tire Well Cleaning?

Hi,

Im curious to know what people are using to clean their rim wells (the inside of their rim that looks dirty and rusty when you look into it) because i would like to get mines cleaned out on all 4 rims. Ive searched the forum but found no results relating to this topic.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

ArmorAll Wheel Cleaner

http://www.armorall.com/products/vie...ry_index=wheel

I use it all the time and it really gets the job done.

Spray it and let it sit for a couple of minutes then with a slight running water and a cloth rub the dirt off.

It works like a charm for me.

I would recommend a Sonic Scrubber Pro Detailer,... not as expensive as it sounds!,.. it's only $10 at Walmart. Good idea to get pay another $10 for a brush set too. It's really just an oversized heavy duty electric toothbrush with thicker nylon bristles,... great for scrubbing out those really black packed in road grime/brake dust,... especially in hard to reach nooky areas. Just apply the wheel cleaner and turn on this sonic scrubber,.... and save your arm from all that scrubbing. Trust me, it'll be the best $10 you spend in a long time! Especially great if your wheel has lots of details,.... even though you seem more focused on just cleaning the wheel well, the narrow shape will allow you to reach many areas of the wheel well without having to take the wheel off the car.

Too bad you are in Florida. If you were in SoCal I would have let you test it out before buying it. From personal experience I have used other brands and ONLY Armorall has impressed me. Other products dry to quickly and you have to constantly respray it. But with Armorall it doesn't dry to quickly. Maybe it's the nozzle design. It has a foam setting where sprays foam on the wheels and they don't drip down as quick.

Hope you get good results like I did.

Keep up posted

He could always drive the 5,000 mile round-trip to test it before he spends $4.99 on the bottle. After all, that does make financial sense.

Just good natured fun here, Karo.

Hey Matt, do you need your wheels to be cleaned? Why don't you come on down to SoCal and test out the Armorall wheel cleaner I got

You know me Matt I don't take offense all you guys here on the forums are always good hearted

P.S. I also have Armorall Extreme Tire Gel. We can test that out too

Any of the strong acidic or strong alkali cleaners will take that crap off. Just be careful. The ones that work best are aggressive - don't leave them on too long.

Then you must clean the wheel arches so they look like this. Ask Saprissa how he did it - amazing!!!

This is not a new car but a daily runner.

The C230's wheels stay pretty clean. Everyone on here complains about dust on the OEM brakes, but honestly, I don't find it to be that bad. Maybe it's that the 135i is absolutely ridiculous as far as dust goes? It's wheels are black to match the paint in just a few days.

About that tire gel - my car slings that ***** all over the body of the car, so I no longer put stuff like that on the tire. It looks good at first but then a few days later an abrasive gel/brake dust mixture is spattered down the fenders, doors, and bumpers on both sides of the car. Holy frustrating, batman.

I'd love to visit SoCal though. Too far to drive. Spent a weekend in Vegas a couple of months ago.. loved it.

I know what you mean. After a while that tire gel gets on the car. It does get the tires looking great but you pay a price.

Vegas is heaven for me but that all changes when I have one too many and start betting 100 dollar hands to get my money back.

I'm going to Vegas Nov 5th if anyone is going let me know

I would have never in a million years thought that. Need that stuff for my brake calipers.
Thanks for the info

Oh I wish I could join. I love Vegas.

Yeah it's a fail to "chase". Isn't that what it's called? Gambling more to win back gambling losses?

Haha, It would sure be a long drive :P but i would have loved to meet up if we were closer. Anyone live in Florida in the Tampa Bay area?

Karo, You did a excellent job. Will try the product that you suggested sooner or later.

Today i used "Armor All Wheel && Tire Cleaner" and believe it or not, it worked very good and cleaned up the *rim well* like nothing on each rim after a few hours of hard scrubbing. The rim and the well of the rim looks as if it was brand new. Will post pictures on my next car detailing. Would suggest it to anyone.

Mothers wheel cleaner works like a charm. If you really want the wheel clean, though, you will have to take it off and use a brush from the back (lay the wheel on a very soft surface like a piece of carpet or grass).

Stoner Tarminator.. for the heavy stuff and Eagle 1 A to Z wheel cleaner or my favorite is P21 wheel gel or go to a harley davidson dealer and pick up the S100 wheel cleaner, same as P21, but easy to get over the counter.

Sounds like another idea that would work.

I've also used Mother's wheel cleaner when I've cleaned mine, but I've also used other "equivalent" wheel cleaners from off the shelf at Autozone. Pull one wheel at a time, brush from the back and rinse well. While you have it off you can clean everything under the wheel well also, although mine never got quite to Saprissa's level (partly because it only happens about once a year).

and remember when putting the armorall or tire shine on. Do not use the spray mode when applying. Use an applyer because that stuff gets all over the rims inside and out and make dirt and dust stick to it a lot faster
