"P0128 - Coolant temperature below Thermostat regulating temperature"
#27
hahaitzmickey Thanks for the offer , I've actually purchased it earlier from AutohausAZ since I needed a new air filter as well. The how to that you post are for the 2003 engines it's a little different than the one I have.
I've cleared the code today and I'm planning to drive around a little to see if it' comes back up again. I'm on my 4th restart of the engine today and based on previous experience it needs to fail 5 times before CEL comes up. Let's hope it doesn't come up. I'm really lazy to change it.
What kind of coolant is everyone using when they change theirs ? Anything in specific that I should use or anything from AutoZone will work ?
Thanks hahaitzmickey for quick respond. Sorry I was actually out for a work for awhile and totally forgot about this thread.

Bumping this thread up. P0128 CEL came up this morning. The only thermostat I found is 100 C as opposed to 90 C. Is this the only 1 available for the 06's?

The M272 engine takes the "so called" 100 deg C, 3 plate electronically controlled thermostat. Controls from 85 to 100 deg.
Reflected in price.

I just replaced mine a few weeks ago, I hated the price for a thermostat but it works and nothing else I know of will replace it. This is the best price I was able to find for the correct OEM one. Mercedes Coolant Thermostat (M272) - Wahler 2722000115 from FCP Euro @ $104.95 including shipping. Good service and the correct part. They also have a good how to video clip on the page displaying the thermostat that probably saved me some time and aggravation as well. Not a hard job if you have the right tools to do it.

FYI, just did this repair on my '07 C230 a couple of weeks ago. I got the Wahler (PN 2722000115) thermostat from Amazon for $86 including shipping. That's the best price I could find anywhere.

Wish I would have found that deal, I did check Amazon first but did not find it. I get a lot of my car parts through them. Oh well, wasted another $19, almost a case of Lager.

I ought to check Amazon more often. I usually reflexively go to rmeuropean which usually has good prices - but apparently not always the best!

Thermostat replace
Hey guys, need to know...I too got the p0128 code after my CEL came on in my 08 c300, so I know I need a new thermostat. For those of you that replaced yours yourself, did the CEL go off after the thermostat was replaced? Or did you have to clear the code with a scanner?

It's a bit of a PITA on the M272 motor but look it up on YouTube, there's an excellent video on how to change out the thermostat. It took me about 90 minutes to do but I really took my time as this is the first time I dug into repairing a German car. My old Nissan was a pretty straightforward car to work on.

Hi, I have P0128 code on my C230 2007. I was looking around and found a DIY instruction on youtube
. But he needs to loosen few more parts to get to it. Is that required? Can you get to the thermostats without those steps.
Thanks
