Seats are sooo uncomfortable...
I never paid much attention to the uncomfortable seats until today when the nth passenger in my car said the same thing I hear from just about everyone that sits in the front. Why, though don't the seats recline? They move forward and back and up and down but the back support does not move. Very uncomfortable now that I am noticing it as well.

LOL!!!!
There's a knob on the side of the backrest that you have to turn to recline the seat. Did you really think that it didn't recline? How long have you had the car? And you need to RTFM.

Did you try turning it further?? I don't think I've tried to put it back that far, so I couldn't tell you exactly how far back it goes. But I would think it would go back that far.

the backrest can lie almost completely flat, or at least it can with the power seats. i havent tried it with manual seats, but on my power seats, the back f the seat gets to within an inch of the rear seat. makes it easy to look straight up through the pano roof.

My seats lay pretty flat. Me and my wife went on a 13 hour drive last year and she never complained about the seats. I think she even slept like for 4 hours on those seats you guy's call uncomfortable.

The manual seats do not recline fully. They go to about a 50 degree angle.
Anyways, yes the seats do suck on our coupes. I am kinda thin, maybe thats why my *** is unconfortable, but the bottom pad is crappy IMO. My clk feels great to sit in, fits my body fine, but the c coupe is hard. Was there a lumbar support option on the power seats? That would make a ton a difference because the lower back on the chair doenst protrude much.

My only complaint about the seats is the lack of adjustable lumbar support. I fixed that real fast by ordering a lumbar seat cushion from www.healthyback.com www.healthyback.com I do feel kinda old though...22years old and I've got comfort accessories in my car.

Its a car seat, not a barcalounger.
The C seats are great. They are firmer than most people are used to...but on long rides they better than super soft ones.

yeah, the coupes have by far the hardest seats that i've ever sat in. among all of the cars i've sat in i mean. the real solution would be to take the seats out of one of the new 9-3 convertibles and put those in the coupe. now that would be comfy.

Might be personal preference, but I rather like hard seats. In fact, I hate seats that are all fluffy and when you sit down, it deforms. The C-coupe seats are nice and snug to me. And why would you want seats that recline all the way down when you drive?
Bad thing about the seats is that it doesn't provide too much support on hard turns, heck, I feel like I'm gonna fall out. I'm not sure if it's whether the leather is slippery or the side bolsters are not big enough.

I would strongly recommend against driving in any car (comfortable or not) with the seatbacks reclined to the point where the shoulder belt fails to touch your front passenger's shoulder.
The C class does not have the new S-Class safety device that returns (electric) seats to an upright position when it senses an impending collision.
For layabouts laying down in a car may be a comfortable posture, but it's a sure way to submarine out of a seat in a crash and break your passenger's neck on the shoulder belt.

My Supra had the best seats I'd ever sat in...14 way adjustable with an air bladder lumbar (like a blood pressure cuff). The coupe seats are much more ergonomic (read: comfort without all the adjustments)....but a lumbar support would be nice (MB can you hear me?). MB says these seats don't need that because they're anatomically designed to be "correct"...whatever their version of "correct" is.
Conversely, I had an Eagle Talon between the Supra and the Benz....those seats just plain sucked. I replaced them with Flofits, which were better...but still less than the Toyota OR the Benz.
Oh....and by the way, reclining your seats to a flat position while driving is amazingly dangerous. Don't do this!!! It's not "cool" or "phat" or "smack"....it's a disease. Next you'll be adding neon light kits, beer-fart exhaust tips, fender flare kits and 100mm wheel spacers.

Don't worry about the people that recline their seats while driving. It's called thinning the herd. Get rid of those that are not smart enough to survive.

My 02 C320 has the most uncomfortable seats I have ever had. I really appreciate firm seats but these are simply hard. I even have the multi-contour option but it is a joke. I really like the C Clsss sedans but can't understand why they put such poor seats in this car. The sports version seats seem much better to me but I don't want the aluminum interior or low profile tires. As a result of this I'm switching to the new CLK primarily because of its much better seats.

1. The seats are hard and small.
2. I often find it difficult to get comfortable in the seats while wearing a large winter coat.
3. The leather is very slippy, and I find myself constantly adjusting the mirrors due to me slouching in my seat after 5 mins. The slipping is made worse by how hard the seats are.
In the summer, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, these seats were great, loved them, in the winter, yes the heated option is great, but the seats are less comfortable.
Here's the breaker though. Hard seats will LAST! If you want to keep your car for more than 5 years, you'll appreciate it then, or when you go to sell it and the seats are still in good condition.

First thoughts on the interior: "Wow, these seats are sure comfortable. This has to be the softest leather I've ever seen in a car interior."
Next thought: "They'll never last."

You can have hard leather such as Mercedes has used for years and still have a very comfortable seat. The ultimate factor in comfort is the proper compliance in the padding. MB has used a rubberized hair or I guess it's now rubberized cocanut fibres which gives a firm but compliant support. On the C320 they went to a molded foam with a very thin pad on top. It is this kind of cost reduction that can ruin an otherwise great car. It's a little like building a million dollar house and putting in some cheap plywood kitchen cabinets.

as for my seats, i usually get the question "can it be anymore upright?"
