i have an 02 c240 that you can be driving down the road and it will shut off .the display says electronic malfunction. you can turn the key off and crank it back up and it runs fine until the next time it happens any ideas?

 

Please get an OBDII scanner & download codes - stops guessing. Might be a shot CPS

 

its the rear SAM loose. I had that problem last week

i will get the codes this weekend when the car gets back but until then please explain more about the rear sam.

 

From what I know, the rear SAM is a module / software that controls the following
1. Fuel pump signal / module
2. central door locking and car alarm
3. trunk opener
4. gas tank filler

If the connector is loose it will shut-off engine and sometimes displays the "Z" malfunction in the dash (aka system display fault). It will show in the scan tool that all systems in the car get low voltage

Hope its loose only.
