WIX Filters Question
Hey Guys,
I just bought a 2k6 C230 and have decided to change all the filters. HOLY MOLY, that's a ton of money. I decided to go with all WIX filters because in my opinion, they are the best OE filters you can buy.
So to make a long story short, I was thinking about starting a site to sell all Mercedes Style WIX filters. A friend on mine is a sales rep for them and I think I can get a really good deal! I wanted to run it buy you guys to see if you would order them from me. I'm not willing to make the investment unless I know it's worth it. I would probably need to sell $1000 a month. I have to do a little more research but, I think I can save everyone a lot of money.
After all, WIX filters are the offical filter of NASCAR.
Check for your filter part numbers here. http://wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index.asp

I happen to like Wix filters as well. Not to be a jerk, but why would I mail order a filter when I can get one from my local NAPA, Knects, or Auto Zone? Yes - Wix may be a special order but it gets to me the next day without paying shipping.

No offense taken my friend. I was just curious. Well, I thought I could save everyone money on replacement filters. You do have a good point about the free shipping. It's not like there is a huge mark up on them anyway.

Because Wix sponsor NASCAR is no guarantee of filter quality. Please only use the genuine Mann + Hummel Mercedes Benz fleece filter for engine oil. What you do with cabin filters etc is up to you. I would suggest high quality air filtration for the engine though. If you choke in the cabin through bad filter choice - well that's OK

wix is not a bad brand, i would use them without thinking twice, but i highly doubt you will beat the price from some of the on-line stores which sell german filters like mann/hengst/knecht/mahle. not to mention a lot of members here think that german made filters are better, when in reality they are just like any other filter. but if you can get good price, then you should be able to sell at least $1000/month, that's not that many filters.
also does wix make fleece oil filters which most of people use instead of paper oil filters in order to get full benefit of fss?

Ok so i looked up my car to see if they were fleece or not. for my car the oil filter was paper. i would not use paper in my car even for 3k changes but that is just me. i know that some of the c230's can only get paper filters in the usa but if fleece filters are available i would go with them. on rmeuropean the mann filter for my car is 10.80 with free shipping if you spend $50 which is not hard if you need air filters or other parts. also i have seen the fleece filters cheaper on some other sites.

BTW, for 10.80 for an OEM filter you can't go wrong that is a killer deal!

Oil filters!!!! - M+H filters are blown polyester - known as "fleece" They were developed with Benz for long drain with 229.5 approved oils. They are the only approved filter for V6 & larger engines & previously the M271. The K&N oil filter is a rebranded Mann fleece filter as is the Bosch. They are 1 micron nominal 3 micron absolute - 75 beta ratio filters & will comfortable achieve old ISO 16/11 cleanliness in one pass new. The only other filter I know that will do this off the shelf is a Donaldson Syntec synthetic media hydraulic filter specified similarly.

fleece oil filter is recomended, but not required. if it was required mercedes wouldn't sell paper filters too for the same models it sells fleece oil filters. of course it is better to use fleece oil filters, but if you use paper oil filters it is not going to cause any type of damage.

There is a sticker ON THE FILTER HOUSING that says something to the effect of "MUST USE FLEECE FILTER ONLY". I know this is true for the C240 and the C320. Maybe the C230 doesn't have that sticker? Better not be following the 13k FSS interval with a paper filter.
The paper filters are ONLY if you're changing the oil much more often than what is stated in the manual and in the FSS system.

read carefully what i wrote ****face and calm down rambo. if you are doing 12-15k mile oil changes then yes, use fleece oil filter. but if you are changing the oil every 7-8k miles paper oil filter would do just fine, if not then mercedes wouldn't sell paper oil filter for same models that have fleece oil filter. just cause you changed your engine oil a couple of times doesn't make you a specialist on the matter.
That's not what you wrote in your last post. Way to back-peddle. The paper filters aren't supposed to be sold for vehicles that are using 13k FSS. Should I take a picture of the sticker for you? Oh and right, you certainly are a specialist. Maybe you should READ THE MANUAL.
****face? I don't think I've heard that insult since the 5th grade. Oh well. Good try I guess.

I smell a ban coming on. Stop being a moron. Dealerships sell paper filters, but the cars state plainly that fleece filters are required. Get off the "if Mercedes" bus - Mercedes also said the transmission fluid in the 722.6 transmission was a lifetime fill and it's proven that it deteriorates long before the "lifetime" of the car is expired. The fleece oil filters are required. Period. *Most* people will change the oil in the car when the service system advises them to do so.
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts it would be Christmas all year.
