Paint or Vinyl

Hey Guys,

I recently vinyled my trunk, roof and wanted to vinyl the hood but didn't have big enough vinyl.

I didn't like the vinyl look (because I stretched it too much and have spots) and now want to paint the roof, trunk and hood instead. I got quoted 600.00 for Matte black, all these and including the painting of Euro Impact Strips white. What do you guys think? Should I go with it? Is 600.00 a good price? Open to other opinions as well.

Thanks,

Karo

depends on the vinyl & whos applying it... i know i suck at DIY & vinyl so i wont bother
it also depends on the color, for instance if you have a silver car and you want to black out the hood, you would have trouble selling the car later with a black hood so you should calculate 2 paintjobs vs 1 (or many depending on use) vinyl job....

paint. the matte black paint looks much better than the vinyl because it offers a sheen that emphasizes the curves of the car. The vinyls are good, but they look too matte to show off the beautiful lines of the car IMO. My car is entirely matte black and it looks much better than the vinyls ive seen both in the US and in Europe. Only downside to painting is upkeep and price: different washing procedure, different wax, slightly less durability, etc. if you have any questions, send me a PM mate

sounds like a good price to me for a matte paint job, as long as its a 1-stage matte paint. You should ask what paint they are quoting, because matte paint is usually more expensive per can (like $150+ for 1 can). With matte, you want to use the best quality paint you can find for durability and to limit any blotches as the paint sets.

have someone professionally vinyl the roof and have HMS paint the impact strips.

that way, you'll save money and if you get sick of the look, you can go back to stock.

Karo, post some pics of how your car looks with the vinyl..

I got quotes at a few places to paint my roof black awhile ago, i think the avg was around $400. This was for a gloss black though, so i don't know if you can gauge your pricing with that.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Phil, I asked and to do a clean job (very clean for the roof they charge 280) if I include the hood and trunk I think it'll be more than painting it. But I know what you mean it's not permanent.

Roland, I left the trunk like that because i'm gonna put the wing there and it will cover the line.

just do the roof. trust me, you don't want your car to look like Pepe Le Pew.

so $280 for the roof and $50 for the strips, you're done.

So you guys are saying the trunk and hood are overkill?

I really love the look though. But then again the kit is different and I think this setup matches this more than the AMG

yes, it is overkill. the picture you showed us of Tai's car just evidences it.

Tai's car is pretty cool, but would look much better if he painted at least the sides of that CF hood.

Phil and Eric, You guys are absolutely correct. I'm just gonna do the roof (vinyl) and remove the trunk vinyl. Thanks for looking out guys.

Phil, sorry for the no use thread can you delete it bro. Just don't put it in the owned section huh

so i kept telling him...hahah

and his roof is painted gloss black, not matte. IMO if you gonna do black roof, do gloss black.

Gloss black will look like you have a pano roof. I would do that or get the simulated CF re-done professionally so it looks good.

yeah dude, roof only, painting the trunk and hood looks cheap and is definitely overkill. +1 on professionally having your roof vinyled and painting your strips at HMS.

Nowhere ...Fast
here is my suggestion... starting from the grill, which on whie car paint it white, that buldge on the hood either vynil it or paint it matte black and follow through to the roof and then to the trunk...if you do the trunk do the entire trunk adn follow the trunk lines onto the bumper...i think that would look dope....

I honestly don't see the fascination with painting or vinyling a white cars roof black . . .why not just keep it clean and keep it white Car looks good already

just a personal suggestion is for painting matte/flat black. be prepared to be babying all areas that are painted with that finish. its a pretty big pain in the @$$ to take care of flat finish paints. some of my friends have that paint on their cars and scratches and bs form real quick =(

Same as others, I'd just paint the roof gloss black and leave the trunk and hood alone. CF looks cool but W203 is not sport enough to have the CF hood IMO. I wanted it really bad on my white 350z but didn't even think about it on my C.
