About to become a c230 owner!

Tell me what you think (I love red):

http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dd...aptcha=success

This will be my daily driver (also have a red corvette http://files.rscpro.com/vette/100_2163.JPG )! A friend just purchased an 05 and I fell in love with it, I almost bought a 330i but I'm glad I didn't. Any thoughts? Does this car throw any red flags? It's going to be about 15k final price which seems reasonable.

if its a daily driver than it will be better than 330i... and since you have a corvette it will be a replacement for speed as the c is slow...

That was my line of thinking as well. Raw speed isn't terribly important and it will be a HUGE step up from the grand am I'm currently driving (don't ever buy one). On my way in an hour to pick it up!

Its a good year to purchase, 1st year of the facelift and last year of the S/c 1.8L motor, you can upgrade it and grab more power out of it much more then 06.07 c classes which have NA v6's. I wanted red badly just couldnt find any in a manual. Just make sure its in good shape and has no oil leaks around the cam cover (guess it leaks onto the wire harness) IIRC and make sure they did either the A or B service and you should be good.

Congrats man nice color and future car.

Thanks! That was my logic too, I liked the new look but the old engine so it had to be an 05. The carfax shows they did the 50k checkup and I'm going to call a merc service center with the vin to see if I can verify. I looked at it a couple days ago and it was absolutely spotless inside and out, I've never seen red paint in such good condition (except my other car of course ).

Wow what a great car! I haven't had much time to drive it but it's definitely the nicest car I've owned! I'll post pics when I get some free time. Mars red is a great color, it turns out the car was tinted by the original owner, it looks great.

Well if you insist...

It's getting dirty so it looks like I get to wash/claybar/polish it this weekend, should be fun . I just had a coworker ask me for a ride, I guess he likes mercs, did I tell you I really like this car? So I do have some questions that I haven't had time to run a search on:

1. I want to start using amsoil with 10k intervals, is this the right stuff: http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=AFLQT-EA ? Can someone recommend an oil filter that is safe to use? I've been using mobil 1 filters but I'm not sure if they make them for this car.

2. I'd like to change the transmission fluid, also with amsoil, will this work: http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=ATFQT-EA ? Is there a filter that needs to be replaced as well? Can I do this myself or take it into a jiffy lube (there is one that sells amsoil here)?

3. What are the recommended spark plugs and are there directions for replacing them? I've been using ngk tr55's in both of my cars and have had good luck (copper so I change them frequently).

4. What is the proper method for running seafoam through these engines? I'd like to do this before replacing the plugs.

5. Can/should the rear diff fluid be changed? If so what is the proper fluid to use?

6. Where can i find replacement coolant (I understand it either needs to be MB or repackaged MB fluid)? Can I drain/fill the coolant myself? Do I need to replace the gel pack that came stock or just leave it?

7. Where is the best place to buy a new cabin filter and how do I check to see if it needs to be replaced?

8. How difficult is it to add remote start and are there kits?

9. Where can I buy the replacement hose that prevents o2 damage when the cam sensors leak?

10. How do I check the stereo to see if it has the optical setup (has the harmon/kardon option)?

11. How do I program the garage door opener?

12. If I take off the front license plate is there an easy way to plug the holes?

13. Does the supercharger have its own oiling system? If so how is it maintained and which type of oil do you use?

So what would these upgrades be? Both my friend and I want to do something to get more power out of them, a new pulley/dyno tune perhaps?

There was a sponsor on here a while ago with a remote start that worked with the smart key, but he wanted $600 for it. I'm sure you could use a more generic one, but have to carry an extra fob.

10. How do I check the stereo to see if it has the optical setup (has the harmon/kardon option)?
If it is H/K, it will be written on the rear deck on one side (driver's side I think) and there will be a sub there.

11. How do I program the garage door opener?
It is in the manual. If you don't have one, register your VIN with MBUSA and you can download a PDF of it.

12. If I take off the front license plate is there an easy way to plug the holes?
There should be a DIY somewhere - check the stickies.
Those are the things I know off the top of my head.

No problem. The manual is a wealth of information.
