Anyone driven a C230 with the evolution AMG package?

If you've driven the C230 coupe with the evolution AMG package, I'd like to hear your thoughts about its handling vs. the stock C230!

Thanks!

The "evolution AMG" package is essentially an appearance package - the suspension is the same as the stock coupe (although there will be a slight difference in handling due to the different wheels).

I beleive LondonAMG and one of the Aussies have this package.

Thumbs up Evolution AMG Package

You asked about the evolution AMG , well I have the evolution package with the rear AMG sway bar to improve the understeer. It does a tremendous job and am thinking of adding the front one. The ride charactoristics have not changed.

Adding the front AMG sway bar will increase understeer.

Understeer

Hi Lynn I have read on the forum that installing the front AMG sway bar doesn't increase understeer but does stop the car from diving into the corners under aggresive driving. I guess if you think about it, stiffening the rear bar to decrease understeer then doing the same to the front would counter the affects of the rear bar. Maybe I should get some more input because I don't like understeer. Many thanks. Tony

Tony, I suggest you get your hands on some books such as "How to Make Your Car Handle" by Fred Puhn, "High Performance Handling Handbook" by Don Alexander, and "Chassis Engineering" by Herb Adams. You will discover that increasing the front roll stiffness will always increase understeer/decrease oversteer.

Well guys, thanks for your input about the AMG C32 swaybars. Let me add some more info... in Germany, the C230K is offered with the evolution AMG sport package. The package includes the front and rear AMG designed bumpers, staggered AMG 5-spoke rims, plus AMG tuned suspension (e.g. shocks and springs) and all the options included what we, in the states, know as the the "wheel" package. AMG offers an their own suspension kit for the coupe as a separate purchase from the evolution AMG package. I'm just trying to find out what owners of C230 coupes with the evo AMG package or anyone who has driven a C230 with the evo AMG package have to say about the performance of that suspension kit.

Is anyone here familiar with what i'm talking about?

Nopes, sorry, the evo AMG pkg is solely a appearance pkg to give the car a more mean look. It's basically a C7 pkg with AMG bodykit and rims.

the pkg you are talking about are currently only offered on the sedan called AMG sport pkg. http://www.mercedes-benz.com/e/cars/...sportpaket.htm

info off the MB world wide page:

The EVOLUTION AMG sports package. New from the motor racing specialists

The EVOLUTION AMG sports package not only includes all the features of the EVOLUTION sports package, it also offers AMG bodystyling components comprising dynamic front and rear aprons and an AMG spoiler. The 17-inch 5-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels, painted in sterling silver, come with mixed-size tyres, 225/45 at the front and 245/40 at the rear.

You're right about this, Frank - but apparantly in Europe the AMG suspension is available as an extra package:

So to answer your question Gromit2010, if this suspension kit is the complete C32 suspension (springs, shocks and anti-roll bars) plus AMG wheels, a C230K so equipped should handle slightly better than a C32. This will be due to less nose weight from the lighter motor, which will give the car better weight distribution (closer to 50/50 F/R) than the heavier V6.

Cheers, BT

yup, exactly.

In Europe, you can pretty much customize your own car to every detail unlike what we have in the US: limited options, etc.

OK. Thanks guys for your insights. My AMG suspension kit just arrived. I lready have the C32 torsion bars installed. So, I'll see how the new suspension works all together!

Both Bars

OK Just let us know how they work as a pair. To bad you didn't put the rear on and then tested it through some turns at speed.
