Found a time capsule

Came accross a guy who was ending his 5 year lease, and had 2,700 miles on his 2005 C230 Sport sedan! It is incredible, still has not been "broken in". It is Diamond Black metallic on Black, heated seats, and not a scratch. Pics to follow.

Yea, if it was stored I would make sure it was in a heated/cooled garage. If not it could be worse off than one with more miles.

i 2nd that! and also hope theres no odometer rollback....keeep in mind heated or not heated garage things will rust badly if a car has been sittin there for long period of time. Even car warranty companies give a higher rate with a car with extremely low miles for a vehicle that should be a lot more

When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. What's the story on why it only has 2700 miles? Check the front brake pads and brake fluid level....there should be almost no wear or reduction in fluid level with that kind of miles. Check carfax as well.

Probably gotten for a teenager for school years. Teenager misbehaved, go figure, and parent did the tough love bit but was stuck with the lease.

LOL, a lot of interesting theories, but actually, the man drove it 3-4 times per week, although not more than a couple miles to work, and everything checks out. He would bring it in to the service department at the dealership where I work from time to time, and we always admired how preserved the car was. I went over the car thouroughly at our facility and it is in perfect running order. I don't think the car has seen rain by the looks of the wheels wells. Carfax clean.

I would never recommend buying a car with that low mileage. My car sat for two years and only accumulated 8,000 miles. It still had problems from sitting. On top of that, being driven short distances and not giving the car a chance to heat up is not a good way to run the engine. I would stay away from that car.

there is a reason on maint they say a millage AND a time, TIME=wear. Id much rather an 07 C230 with 40k then an 01 with 2300, If you get my drift, the older car will be worn, regardless of its lack of millage

I don't see how not using a car can cause wear. In CA smog eats the exposed rubber whether you drive or not but Indiana? And if it's never been out in weather? As improbable as it may sound the mileage could be correct. Price?

Well, I bought a 2001 C240 in 2007 with 12k miles on it. It was mint and I have not had any problems from the low-mileage "affliction." A car is a consumable item - the less it is used, the longer it will last!

Not necessarily, seals that aren't used will dry and crack, hoses as well. Fluids separate, body will rust. Depending on conditions it was kept in, you can get rat damage to wires. Wires can, and will, corrode, and you're electronics will suffer.

Understand, but wear is a function of use, not time. Deterioration is a function of time depending on the environment.

In the case of a car driven for extremely short distances, the engine may not reach operating temperature, and therefor would have excess wear on the engine. Also, gas will get into the sump and won't burn off unless the car is run at maximum operating temperature.

2004 S55 (SOLD, miss it every day), 2009 GL550
last May I found and bought an '04 S55 with less than 17K miles on it. Pristine inside and out.

However, I think the previous 2 owners never drove it like they stole it like I occasionally do.

I had a thorough PPI and the guy was impressed by how clean it was, even having me walk under it and showing me how good it looked. He specifically pointed out the lack of leaks in the struts. 10K miles later I've had the two left side struts replaced (CPO, thank god), and am planning on taking it back in for the right side shortly.

My theory is that the seals on the struts never got the "exercise" they needed and dried out a bit and started to leak when i started the regular hard cornering with the ABC turned on. I will have to have the entire ABC system checked before my CPO coverage expires, because there are a lot of seals and valves in there...

I also would prefer a car driven vs short trips and low miles. My car 2nd owner 142k and has had very very few issues. it is also an 01 which every one says to run from but like i said really no issues i think the reason for that is always warmed up and proper maintenance. The only thing my car needs is new struts, Hood repainting and fog light. all of which are expected on a car with 142k.

Perhaps it's best to hold off on the speculation and just wait until someone is able to assess the car themselves :P
