female drivers

I let one drive my car. How the hell do they manage to hit a curb at 15 mph? These wheels don't have a scuff on them throughout the eight years they've been on the car.

I have a flap of rubber just hanging onto my tire. I'm going to cut it off, or secure it with adhesive. Is this going to bubble?

Just another reason I should stop waiting on new wheels. And refrain from letting others drive my car.

I wouldn't worry. I curbed pretty bad a while ago, and the side of my tire was down to the mesh.

I drove for 1500 miles like that with no problem (I was on a vacation and had to have another General ordered). Did you buy road hazard for your tires? I did, and it has been worth it so far!

Hahaa! So I'm not the only one!

bdgdl08- I did, but I don't know what I'm supposed to tell the tire place in the future.

"Hi.. my tire dismounted while my girlfr-" "Sorry sir, we don't cover that."

I just took it to my shop and asked them to look at it to see if the damage was covered. I didn't give them any details. I said I just noticed it, and didn't remember what happened. They didn't ask any questions, and fixed it for free!

I, too thought I was the only one. I let me wife drive my car once (once) up the street three blocks to the neighbors house and in that time she managed to curb my rear right rim parking. I asked her about the nice patch of curb rash on my tire and rim when she got home and she told me I did it . I reminded her that she was the only one who had driven the car that morning...still my fault...

BTW, her method of parallel parking her SUV sometimes is to drive forward and pop the curb with the front right tire and then slide down the curb into place .

I assume you definitely have the road hazard warranty?

I hope all of you noticed, like I did, that the second (and worst) example of curb damage on this thread came from Drew - who admitted to doing it and who is (I think?) not a female. It can happen to anyone. I just noticed a scuff on the bottom of my AMG front bumper. It wasn't there two weeks ago and couldn't have been from another car. I'm extremely careful and perplexed, but it happens.

I couldn't return here without picking at you, Drew.

Thank you very much! It's great to have you back. I am the first to admit that it was a complete dumbass thing to do, and I keep kicking myself for it! I was trying to make a u-turn with oncoming traffic. I was out of town, and was a little disoriented. I smacked the curb really hard, and I'm surprised there wasn't more damage. I have the benefit/problem of having a car that was already "broken in." The bottoms of the bumpers already had some pretty bad scratches on them from the previous 90 year old owner, so, while it's easier to deal with if and when I get a scratch, it's also easier to be careless.

I have the same story too...wife comes to a stop sign, turns too tight and takes a huge chunk of wheel and rubber off. Not just curb rash but a quarter sized piece. She must have had a brain fart, bc she is usually a very good driver. Didnt realize it was this common

I should watch out. I've actually let a few girls (Maybe more than half a dozen so far collectively) drive my car now after parties and what-not and its never been an issue. *Knock on wood*

My C230 is a complete *****. I don't think I know anyone who HASN'T driven it - and sometimes (like when I flew to Vegas) I've left it with someone to use for days at a time without me even around. Luckily everyone has been careful and my car doesn't have but a few little nicks on the wheel - no curb rash at all.

Normally, hits like this at speed don't require realignment, do they?

Mine seems to be fine, so I doubt you would have problems. Next time it's in for service ask them to check it. They shouldn't charge you to check it.

yeah your pretty lucky, when i had my '06 IS250, i had a girl drive me home from a party because i blew a .17 (pocket breathalyzers FTW, checking to see if your too drunk to drive beforeee getting pulled over is always a better idea than letting mr. popo find out for you) and thought itd be a better idea for her to drive? yeah she curbed the rim pulling out of the driveway, and in doing so put the wheel up on the curb, then when i yelled she cut the wheel the other way and as the car fell it hit the bottom of the front bumper on the curb and popped 2 of the clips >:O

So that's the reason! And I thought the whole time that the number one reason you wouldn't drink would be because you're, what, 12?

My GF used to worry I was on this site picking up chicks, now after seeing this thread, she knows better. Not one woman to chime in and tell us we're chauvinistic pigs.

Man, that's rough... I've had similar damage to tires (on previous cars) before and drove on them just fine. I probably wouldn't worry about it.

I let anyone/everyone drive my cars. Worst incident was my Honda. GF at the time managed to crack some very expensive and rare Mugen headers.
Other than that, worst thats happened to me was when I curbed my wheels after being distracted by two japanese schoolgirl fobs in downtown la.
