4matic rumble. front diff or transfer case
2003 C320 4matic, 73000 miles;
I have researched what could be making a rumble during tight turns and am wondering if the noise could be a front diff rather than a transfer case. I am hoping someone can guide me as to what it is.
I purchased the car 6 months ago and the rumble was evident then, although I assumed it was normal, as I have never owned a 4matic. Since I do most MX myself, I have changed all fluids (had an indy replace transfer case fluid due to accesability), plugs etc...the car still makes the sounds at low speed tight turns. It is more noticable in right hand turns and in forward gears and neutral as opposed to reverse.
What makes me wonder about the front diff is that is does this in Neutral. Wouldnt a transfer case issue only be evident while there is a power application and not in neutral or reverse?
thanks.
