to go ceramic or non?
I was cleaning my car today and was checking out the brakes. I always went ceramics due to fear of that sqeaking noise. But are oem's ceramics or semi?

Granted that the OEM's are softer and there is a lot of dusting issues, but only the soft ones bite the roter better and brake better, the harder the pads the more brake pedal force needs to be applied.........for the car to stop....I have semi metalic's on and have to push the pedal real hard for it to stop..................just my 2cents.

I myself use Akebono's Ceramics. They're OEM on a lot of JDM cars. As in actual JDM, not USDM with JDM mods.
And yes, OEM's are definitely a lot better when it comes to aftermarket pads. They do dust a lot more, but it's all because of the great response the oems give. But since I myself try not to put myself in situations where extreme braking situations are needed, I'm fine with less dust and more life. The OEM's are softer compound, which in turn causes less noise and more dust, with better bite.

Akebono ceramic pads rule.
PERIOD!
Start with fresh rotors as the pads last forever.
I have 75K on my fronts, and they'll easily be going to 100K.
No squeal at all.

Out Of Control!!
Get Akebonos at tirerack.
I had to switch from them on my Racing Brake 2-piece rotors, as they don't get along too well. Otherwise, I'd still be using them - they're great.

Kinda off topic, but its time for me change my pads and this time i want to change to aftermarket equipment to see if there is any real improvement on braking.
What do you recommend for stock rotors:
Front: EBC Green Stuff or Akebono Ceramics
Rear: EBC Red Stuff or Akebono Ceramics
Will they warp the stock rotors faster???
I dont care for noise, i just want dependable braking with reduced dust while not harming the rotors. Theyre cheaper than stock pads, so i want to give 'em a try. Where do i look for them? i know theres tirerack, but is there a better site?
Thanks

EBC is horrible. I know e1000 has tried them and says Akebono is much better.
Stay away from EBC
Like I mentioned before in my post OEM or Akebono..nothing else.

I installed Akebono ceramics on my 05 C230SS, and love them. Braking is nearly the same as OEM; I barely notice any difference at all. The best part is that there is practically no dust whatsoever !! My OEM rear pads dust FAR MORE. Where previously my front wheels would look black with brake dust after a few days while the rear wheels still looked clean, now, my fronts look nearly clean after > 3 weeks.
I'm actually wishing my rears needed to be replaced, because I'd put Akebono's on the rears too. But I only have about 48K on my car, so the rears still have enough pad for at least another 25K or so.
Be careful as to the part #'s for these. Took me a little while to determine what was the correct part #'s. I'll post them later this evening when I get home, as well as the site I got them from.

I replaced rears that had plenty of life on tthem, cuz I was getting more dust on the rear than the fronts, after I switched to Akebonos up front. OEM pads and rotors seem to eat each other up. I hope to have my Akebonos and R1 Concept drilled/slotted rotors for a good long time!

Part # for Akebonos Front Pads
Hey Guys,
So I found the part number for the Akebono front brake pads. Please note that these are for a 2005 (and up) C230 Sport with the single piston calipers.
The part number is: Akebono EUR1121.
I checked out several sites when I was looking to buy them, and a few of them had the incorrect part number, where others were saying it wasn't available. However, I think now all the sites have the correct one.
I searched on tirerack, rockauto, and placeforbrakes. Placeforbrakes had the lowest price, and free shipping.
I included some pics of my install....
Warning Message on the MFD:
Akebono Package:
Part number closeup:
Package contents:
Since my rotors were pretty grooved, I purchased some new Zimmerman ones:
Rotors:
Rotor Diameter:
Rotor Weight:
Original Rotors on my car after about 40K miles:
Caliper removed with original pads and wear sensor:
New Rotor Mounted:
New pads and sensor installed:
Hope this helps everyone out.
