2003 C230 Kompressor
c230 + "hot to the touch" engine?....

Hey guys,

I have a 2002 C230 Kompressor (2dr. coupe). I was wondering if it is known that the engine feels HOT to the touch after the car has been running a while. No problems have surfaced at all and none of the warning lights have come up, however, I just noticed that it is HOT to the touch. Is this normal?.....

Thanks again....
I'm **** with my cars...haha..

Headers don't get hot when engine is running, even when under high load!

Its best to use the heat sink on top of the ecu to leave grill marks.

That's where your kompressor-flux capacitor is. If it's getting that hot you're probably low on blinker fluid. It's best to do a gasoline dump on it for now in order to keep it cool.

/I insist that you do not follow my advice unless you are a certified mechanic.

The Gull :)
That seems a little strange to me. My engine is actually cold to the touch after running.

Although I must mention that I do routinely douse the engine in gasoline (93 octane of course).

I have been doing this on all of my vehicles - but it seemed to make the most difference on my old c-class.

A friend explained it to me - As you put the gasoline over the engine it does a few things:
1. Cleans any grease from oil changes/spills and this always keeps the engine cooler since it removes the thermal layer of grime

2. As the gasoline evaporates it has a cooling effect on the engine. Think of it as sweating. As your body gets hot - you sweat and the body cools itself by evaporative cooling.

3. Like I said make sure to use 93 octance gasoline because a lower octane gasoline could cause knocking as it evaporates and will not cool the engine as well.

I make sure to re-apply the gasoline every 2,000 miles or so as it does evaporate over time!

don't forget to touch your brake rotors too after some braking to see if they get hot...some thing might be wrong...

Damn, I knew the dealer was screwing me! They've been omitting the blinker fluid refill all this time..

I was laughing like a retard for the last 5 minutes because of this one post. Epic.

On a serious note, anyone else access the panorama sunroof test mode? The one that lifts open the 2nd glass panel of the coupe. They pulled the feature just like Distronic, but it's still there (but just hidden). The car needs to be moving at least 20 km/h, and you simultaneously depress and hold the "window down" switches for both window switches in the door while hitting the rear defrost, with the hazards on and the wipers on the 2nd speed setting.

Actually I do know of people who bake hams on their engines during road trips. They wrap the ham in foil and use snare wire to attach it to the engine. It actually works. They used the block itself though and not the manifold. The M271 manifold gets insanely hot.

lol. Original poster! All kidding aside, I believe what you are referring to is the engine cover. It is fine that it's very hot. It's basically sitting on top of a controlled series of explosions.

And for the love of god, don't touch your brake discs after heavy braking with your hand! Use your tongue. I hear it sticks. Just sayin'.
