belt tensioner replacement 2003 c230k coupe
ok i started my belt tensioner replacement today, i decided to because i have 100k miles and i get a squeeking noise at times plus im doing the belt too. anyway i have the supercharger tube off, the belt off and bottom skit plate.. but the tensioner will not come out.. i saw an article on how to do it and it says the supercharger removed.. but why would you need to i have full access to the pulley.. it looks like it just slides in and the spring is what keeps it from coming out.. ive tried to pry it out but nothing so maybe supercharger is required? where is this mystery bolt? the car is a 1.8 which im not sure if that matters or not or if the 03 komp came with any other engine..

figured a pic would help.. i see no spots for any bolts? so why would i have to take supercharger off to get to the bolts? it looks like it slides in but just cant get old one to come out..
in case the pic does not work..

looked at tensioner no bolt.. why would mercedes make it so taking the supercharger off is the only way to replace something that i would consider normal wear and tear? what is holding the tensioner in? a bolt hidden by the supercharger? im going to get a manual before attempting it further, i just changed the belt for now.

There is a bolt that screws into the back of the pulley assembly. When you purchase a new pulley, it does not come with a new bolt. If you look at the back of the pulley, you will see there is a hole for the screw. So look again in your engine bay and you should be able to find the bolt that needs to be removed so that you can change the pulley out.
I was going to replace the pulley myself in my M271 engine, however decided against it after seeing how much work was required. I had a shop that showed me where the bolt was, so I am able to answer your question. I will be having an indy shop replacing my pulley sometime soon. Good luck.
