w203 rubbing issues...
w203 rubbing issues...
hello everyone...quick question
just lowered my w203 with H&R springs sitting on some 19inch Lorinsers...
im rubbing a bit on the rear when i hit dips and when someone sits in the back...
i know i cant raise my rear because i dont have coilovers, (which if i had to do over, i would spend the extra cash and save the drama) but has anyone ever used this product
http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/MRG1287.htm
i dont know what else to do or is this something that everyone deals with when lowering their car...
and the funny thing is i only rub on one side...the passengers side...
the guys at HMS said my bumper is not aligned correctly...i can account for that because a few months ago someone hit me on that side...
any suggestions besides the coilovers?
thanks for your help...

dp20, Welcome and post a pic or two when ya get a chance. Anyhow, some have successfully done a bit of fender well lining trimming- or rolled the fenders depending on where it's rubbing.
Also, of note, is that the rear springs have a rubber pad that sits on top of the spring..benz sourced 4 different thickeness depending on how your car was optioned. If you don't have a #4 pad which is the thickest, then you may try going with a thicker pad that will slightly raise your rear. The pads range from something like 6mm 10 mm 14 mm 18mm.
Are you rubbing on the inner or outer wheel well? Also, what size rear tires are you running??

ok...the guy said the car is sitting at the thickest pad...whatever that means
they did cut out and roll the fenders i believe
because the bumper is misaligned, i think im rubbing on the outside
the drivers side wheel is perfectly inside the wheel well and my inder finger can go around the tire with ease, with the passenger side, my finger is really tight inside the well
its really weird and a big difference to me...
so i guess those pads from the link i posted arent of any use?
i'll try to post some pics as i am still trying to learn how to use this site

The stretched tire should be ok in the wheel well. If you were hit, I highly suggest getting things re-aligned and that includes your wheel alignment.
I curbed a wheel and it started the same issues until alignment was corrected.

actually just got an alignment and the rubbing went away slightly
i dont want any rubbing at all...thats why im trying to fix this issue
guess im just stuck...searching the site for those pads that someone suggested

I do have a few reason as to why one side of your rear is rubbing and another is not.
1. I would guess that the side that is lower the shock absorber is done for. there's no good way to test it, but basically press down on the right side of the trunk and then on the left. "feel" the difference between the two and since you have a 2002 if it does have a lot of miles on it you might want to change out the shocks regardless.
2. keep in mind that w203 tend to be different depending on each car that the suspension track is never centered. hard to tell on stock, but once you have lowered and put bigger wheels on it. I've noticed this on almost every modded w203 including mine. it's why sometimes someone has issue with rubbing on the driver side and another has issue on the passenger side.
3. you want to trim/cut out those tabs probably completely. rear tires rarely rubs on the actual fender on the 203.

Blah, my passenger side rubs too when I make hard turn (and i mean hard turns...lol). But if there is a person sitting in the front passenger, it will rub if take the turn a bit aggressively (when im making right turns). Oh and if a person is sitting in the back....

Oh, I have coilovers, FYI

what you can do is trim a lot of stuff inside the bumper off.

what kind of wheels do you have?
some wheels just fit horribly, i have a friend who bought brand new wheels that stick out an inch farther on one side

because the bumper is misaligned, i think im rubbing on the outside
