Have you guys ever seen the Brabus Lorinser?? One of the local guys here in Burbank has one. I believe Brabus and Lorinser joined together to make this 1 of 1 S-Class

Edit:

It's gold color too.

Also there is an S600 but it's customized to an S320 body for weight reduction. A lot of crazy custom cars in Glendale

oh, I know that car, I've seen it around.

lots of crazy custom cars in Glendale. last time I was in Glendale, I saw an "S55 AMG" with no visible exhaust on it! or my favorite, was a "C55 AMG" but with a front and rear C230 conversion

Dude that S55 AMG with no mufflers is my cousin Sarkis and the C55 is his friend Armen.

I am having the Renntech kit (as discussed above) installed today. along with the C32 springs. Mechanic just called me to say the shocks are an inch shorter than stock and the car would be "significantly" lower. Anyone know about this? Shouldn't the shocks be at standard height? Is this an issue? Thanks if anyone knows.

hmm this might be true. I installed the rears so far and also put #4 pads on and the car sits at nearly the same height with the #2 pad in. So it might have lowered it.

Did anyone else put the shocks on themselves? I had some issues properly tightening the tops. I had to add a washer so that the rubber would expand properly to tighten it down. Anyone else have this issue?

So the #4 pad is higher than the #2 I guess. But that would only be a matter of a few millimeters I would think. How did the front come out then? And did you keep stock springs?

My mechanic said he could not get the spring compressed enough to fit on the struts. The strut piston only comes out a few inches. It was not reaching to the mounting point. Any ideas anyone?
Also, he got the rears done with the C32 springs. Lower by about a half-inch.

Trust they’re already installed. Had some miles to evaluate its new damping and spring rates?

New dampers have no effect on ride height unless the gas pressurization in the old pieces had equalized. Most available MacPherson strut replacements have virtually identical steering knuckle-to-lower spring perch dimensions which, exclusive of the springs’ load height, ultimately establish front ride height.

The “shorter” your technician likely referred to was their length at full extension. That is to say when the suspension is fully unloaded, be it from high speed whoops, raised via a floor jack, or traversing off-camber driveways and drainage culverts. Damper manufacturers do so to cover their tails since they’ve no control over whose springs will be fitted. It’s seldom an issue in the front, but shorter aftermarket springs can rattle in the rear perches at full droop owing to excessive travel.

edit: your mechanic must clamp those buggers down sufficiently in order to get the strut bushing’s nut home..

Splinter, thanks a lot for the explanation. The piston on the strut protrudes about 4 or 5 inches. It won't come out any more than that, unless there is a trick to unlock it so to speak. He only was able to install the rears, left the fronts at stock. Something about not being able to compress the spring enough and/or the length of the strut being less than the distance to the mouinting points ( I think). Could not extend it enough to mount it to the upper mount. That was the problem he had.
