Replacement of Speaker for Lock/Unlock Chirp
So, I've had the "Netherlands Setting" in my car for years now, and unfortunately, it now sounds like a duck underwater with its nuts in a vise. I would assume water damage or just old age to the speaker, wherever that is. Has anyone replaced theirs, or even know where it is? I'll be taking a peek at lunchtime in a couple of hours, but would be helpful to get some pointers before I do. Danke.

haha. I had this same issue a few weeks ago. I'm glad I'm not alone. I think its behind the tire torwards the door. At least thats what it sounds like. Also is it just me or are there 2 speakers? One on each side? If so my driver side speaker completely went out cuz I can barelly hear it anymore when i exit my car and walk away since it is only on the passenger side.

I'll listen for them and let you know.
That doesn't sound like a fun area to work around. I'm sure there would be multiple belly pan removal, like always.

I think you're right, on both location and number of speakers.
Damn, they're sounding even worse than ever now; I think they can feel that I'm going to be replacing them.
I think I'll throw my dealer a bone on this one; it's a small item that would be a dirty fix in this hot weather, and living in an apartment with my good jack in another state isn't making things easier.

well it has to be set in the computer so i leave that up to you to discern the rest. If your "independant" can utilize a star program than he should be able to.

ROFL! i love your description of the sound!!
the speaker is on the passenger side, rear of the engine bay, above the lug level, and in between the passenger front tire and firewall lol if you understood that

Thanks for that nugget, Tim.
Of course, I have an appt set up for Monday, and guess what happens last night at 10, when I go to unlock the car? Yep, the speaker sounds perfect. Same thing this morning. It's not like I want to pay for this repair, but I don't want it to repair itself only long enough so that I cancel the appt. I think it's toying with me.

The chirp comes from a siren located in the passenger front wheel well. It is just behind the plastic wheel arch "raincoat." It is about the ten o'clock position of the wheel. One screw and a single two wire connector hold it in place. It is a 10 minute job to change it, including adult beverage to celebrate the repair.

Yep, I cancelled my appt. for today, but am assuming that it's probably water-related, since it hasn't rained in a while here.
Moviela, thanks for the info. I'll see about replacing it soon, then.

I ended up taking it to the dealer this morning. I had to demonstrate the drowning kittens, I mean chirp for the rep. You should have seen the reactions from everyone there. It was quite funny.
And it's 100 degrees and we're in the middle of closing the books at work, so I didn't even think of doing it myself. I'm sure it would have been much cheaper on my own, but I couldn't deal with that screech another day. Right now, it goes on for about 30 seconds, no lie, of eardrum-splitting, nails-on-the-chalkboard screeching. I'll be glad to pick it up this evening.
