dead pedal?

all the talk about dead pedals had me doing some research. i like the idea of the brabus set but i don't necessarily want to replace the accelerator and brake pedals just to get the one dead pedal. and assuming it needs to be screwed down in some way (exactly how?) and as i have no idea what they look like, i did some searches on ebay.

although, i don't think i'd use these, some may find them of interest.

momo universal dead pedal

ac schnitzer dead pedal

the innovative among the members should be able to figure out how to attach them. i have no idea...

here's an amg replacement pedal kit (auto) that i like and the matching amg foot rest pedal but it's expensive

Young,
It would be nice to find out how to attach a plate to the dead pedal area. Whatever is under that carpet isn't magnetic (I did that test already). I presume it's plastic. I'm afraid of drilling blindly into that area without knowing what's behind it.

I could get a pedal hogged out of aluminum for free if I could just figure out if it's ok to drill through the floor.

I've worked on a quite a few cars but dammit, I can't figure out how to take my benz apart and it's killing me.

according to Bos' conversation w/ brabus, you have to screw it down onto the floor plate. so i just assumed that there was some sort of metallic plate there. now, if only there was a pic of what the set looks like?

I'm sure if we wait a little, someone will release a dead-pedal that matches the metal/rubber pedals of the evolution (C7) package. That would be my preferred solution, so it matches the other pedals.

From the looks of it the MOMO pedal is an OK price, but too big, unless you turn it upside down, in which MOMO would looke like OWOW. And, at $117, the Schnitzer pedal is a laugh.

I have got to get the pictures of my dead pedal out of my camera. Matches the McNeil Mats (made from left-over WeatherTech parts) and no drilling needed. I'll post as soon as possible.

I removed the kick panel and pulled back the carpet tonight to see what was behind the dead pedal area. Nothing but empty space back there. Theres a wire harness way back in the corner and the dead pedal area of the carpet is supported by a foam block. No fear of drilling into something as long as you stop as soon as you break through the carpet.

If you want to attach a dead pedal it would have to fasten into the carpet itself. The carpet has a stiff plasticy backing that helps it keep it's shape. The ideal way would be to get some expanding-type plastic fasteners and push them through the pedal into a hole drilled into the carpet. I'll think about this more and in the meantime I'll have my friend machine a pedal out of aluminum plate.

It was hard to get pictures in the close quarters but heres one anyway FWIW. That wire bundle is actually farther away than it looks. It's all dead space back there.

avlis, i'm in on a group buy if you can get ones made like the c7 pedals!

i'm thinking of a shape similar to the one you drew up earlier. can a thin piece of metal be hinged to attach similarly to the one you made.

These all look kinda cheezy to me I think I'll make mine so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb...

And the one with all the holes defeats the purpose of keeping shoe dirt out of the carpet...

Young, you got me thinking. I'll have to look behind the kick panel again. I might be able to make a sheet metal unit with a couple right angle tabs that allow it to be bolted to the metal behind the kick panel. The carpet would remain undesturbed and the fasteners would be covered once the kick panel is replaced. I'd put another bend on the right side of the pedal to protect the side of the raised dead pedal area. Mirror polished stainless steel should do it...

i like it.

three more ideas: a lip to slip under the mat, a turn at the edge so it doesn't abrade into the carpet too fast, and nibs on the surface of some sort (possibly get a metal w/ dots on it already) so that it isn't too slippery.

Couldn't one use a velcro strip to hold the deal pedal in place? Wouldn't the carpet act as the loop half if you stuck the hook half to the backside of the pedal? Then there'd be no need to drill.

That was my first idea. No Luck. Velcro doesn't stick to the carpet. It's cut, not looped.

Just installed a pedal set yesterday. I even drilled the dead pedal to the floor. Maybe it's just the sedans, but there is a plastic dead pedal behind the carpet in my car. The tiny screws penetrate just enough to secure it. I'll post pictures when I get my girlfriend's camera.
