2002 Mercedes Benz C230 Coupe
jcnash's official coupe thread
I figured after I complete the current mods Im working on, my coupe will be show-off worthy. So figured I should start my own thread like some of the other guys here and update it as i go along. Here goes...
Hey guys,
So Im about to upgrade my coupe headlights to some clear ones I finally managed to buy at a decent price, already have the 55W 6000K DDM HID's to go into it. So I figured, I might as well do the fog light upgrade to the new E-class strip LED fog style.
I know some of you guys are gonna hate ...lol...but hey its my car and I love that look on the E class coupe (soooo sexy!!) . Besides here in Canada we need to have DRL's so it would be perfect if I could use these new fogs as the DRL's.
Now the questions...have any of you seen the side fog housings for the cl203/w203 but without the hole for the round/oval fog assemblies being sold? If I find one of those, I could cut out the custom shape needed to mount the LED strip fogs.
Also, anyone know where I can get these strip fogs? If not Ill have to go OEM and I havent seen a single one in the J-shape.
For those of you who dont know what Im talking about....Ive attached a pic. Any info will be much appreciated.

Especially in Canada, aren't you concerned about not having real fogs in bad weather? I would be.
Though I'm interested in seeing how this turns out. Good luck.
Since fogs were std on the whole W203 line, I'd be very surprised if there were housings without the holes. Maybe you could take the center lower grille and cut it to fit instead?

I will however test the led fogs before buying for brightness. As a last resort, I may add these to my existing fogs to serve only as the running lights.
Thanks for the suggestion on the center grill conversion..thats a great idea.

I like this idea! When I did my fogs i thought about putting in LED fog lights, but I thought it might cost too much or be too complicated. I put in 6000k HIDs in a Projector fog light - big mistake. I had lots of problems getting them set up. Please post pictures though! it will look great

Just out of curiosity...what were the problems you faced while putting in HID fogs?

Like Havoc Vulture said, If you do this, I will 3rd this or atleast put this in consideration :P (since my drivers fog's connection is clipped, lmao)
But, if the OEM doesn't work for you (electrical connection or whatever), I'll stick with the cheap, shapeble, aftermarket LED strip
but keep us updated! I'm very curious

Quick update...got prices from the dealer....CAD 229 + 15% tax per side.
Looks like Im going high-quality aftermarket. Definitely cannot justify those prices for some lights. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know if theres AAP in Canada.. But this will be in stock soon at my nearby store and hopefully I'll find a neat, clean way to install them.

I'm looking at the pure white bumper lights meant for exterior mounting. The waterproof variety...not the flexible strips.

Very interesting idea. I agree I am not sure how it will look with the lines of the Coupe, but at the same time I don't think I will know until I see it.
Besides, anything that is done can be undone, but half the fun is making it work. I definitely want to see what this looks like when you get done.
If you get a chance post the part numbers. You never can tell, someone on here may find a much better deal for you.

I think if mounted tastefully...taking into consideration the angles on the bumper...it will look great, but we shall see!
Part numbers for anyone willing to do some price shopping:
LED DRL for W212 & W207:
Left - 2128200756
Right - 2128200856

Just checked on parts.com - one side is US 171.35, tax-free. (that's 176 a side in your funny money - alot of loonies and toonies)
If you're interested, I'll be going to Niagra Falls/Toronto next week, and could send from there to save you some money. Though the price is still a bit high for a mod you're not sure you'd even want.
