Service Records

On purchase of my car, I received a carfax, and in it was only one service record.

11/08/2004 @ 25,466 miles:

-battery/charging system checked
-alternator/generator replaced
-engine/powertrain computer/module reprogrammed
-steering/suspension checked
-lower control arm bushings replaced
-brakes checked
-alignment checked
-front turn signal/parking bulb replaced
-tail light assembly replaced
-tail light bulb replaced
-fuses replaced

For further details on if maintenance was properly done on my car, can I just go to my dealership and ask for the records? Is there a charge?

From the service record alone, it seems I have the troublesome valeo swapped out and perhaps a shopping cart took out my rear light.

Thanks.

The only thing i know of you can get is the VMI Which lists all work done to your car under warranty. I need to get another one now that i think about it just call up your dealer give vin and they should be able to print one out and have it ready in like 5 minutes.

OK called up local dealer. took the title in to the service department. 5 minutes latter walked out with vmi.

Btw you don't have to take the title. I had it out because i am moving safety deposit boxs and figured that they can't question that over registration lol. They just needed insurance card, registration title or something that showed ownership with vin on it.

Whoever had my car before me did only did Service A and B.

At 65k miles/8 years old, looks like I'll need to get the coolant flushed, the brake fluid flushed, replace air-filters, and change spark-plugs.

Let me know if that sounds about right, thanks!

I have been denied the VMI on my car from several Atlanta dealers no matter what proof of ownership I have. They said it is for internal use and I am not allowed to see it. It pisses me off so bad.

Sounds about right. Has your transmission oil & filter been changed? You have probably posted it but I can't remember everyone's cars.

The top of mine says for internal use only but the svc guy gave it to me. I walked in and went to a random svc adviser asked for vmi handed him tittle and he was like one minute. Two minutes latter left with it.

Same here with my wife's SLK. I took it in when we first got it and they ran it for me. But again, I've got a really good relationship with the SA.

Oi! Get this! My SA told me MBUSA had posted no recommendation to maintain the tranny for pre 2006 vehicles! Same goes for coil-packs and wires.

"They say you don't have to do it, but it wouldn't hurt to do so."

"So I can put 200k on my tranny and be worry-free?"

"Uhh.."

Lane - they are talking crap - In ROW the 722.6 transmission is always serviced every 60,000 Km or 37,000 miles. That old US nonesense of filled for life = short life & a new tranny is expensive. Do not listen to them - service the tranny every approx 37,000 miles. I think they now suggest every 39,000 miles on the 7G or some nonesense like once at 39,000 miles.

Wires & coils you can replace when they fail or play up.
