+1 Mark - good catch, +1 John.

While I was sleeping all hell broke loose

Lane - You are allowed to be pissed - I would be too. Just listen to John & all will be fine. Running the tranny with no fluid for a short time will do no harm because it will not operate - only the tranny pump would be gulping for fluid. Drastically overfilled engine would have pushed oil through the crank seals etc or via the captive breather system into a cylinder & hydralocked it. This did not happen. Just watch for seal leaks.

Change engine oil & filter & all will be good.

The only thing to watch for is foam formation in the engine oil which I doubt. To my knowledge there are no sulphur containing additives in the new Benz ATF.

Sulphur containing additives when mixed with Calcium additives in engine oil can cause stable foam formation. i.e. the oil does not release air properly. This would be very obvious in the dipstick tube & via the filler cap. Just check a few times after the oil change that you are building no foam. If you do. Make them change the oil again - This is just a precaution. I think all will be fine.

Okay.. Fine. I need to take a breath with LANE on this.

Sorry to hype this all up, just that, when something like this happens in my old car (Japanese) it's a done deal.

Anyhoo, I guess with GLYN, it's assuring. GLYN, see what happens when you take a nap. No more naps from now on. haha

The manager would not admit the mishap took place! He said that if we had any issues, we should take it up with his insurance.

Then, after getting real pissed, he wrote down what he did to correct it yesterday. "Drained engine and added 7 quarts of M1 5w30 oil." I guess I missed it when he added a few more quarts in the middle of the chaos. I started asking for his insurance details and he offered a free oil filter installed.

I left this morning from his shop with a mostly flushed engine filled with 5w30 oil and a new oil filter. I went to my MB dealership and asked about oil changes, and they said 5w30 was okay to use?

I'm confused here. How much harm will it be to use 5w30 instead of 0w40? Should I do another oil change at MB? Seems like a reasonable price..

Yep, I have done this on barn find engines. You put some ATF in the crankcase and fire her up. Smokes to high heaven, but it cleans up the engine. While I wouldn't do it in my M111, I feel okay with just an oil change.

I swear to you, 04mbc230, that I'm not with karo on this one. Guys, please help me through this, I am genuinely pleading.
16 year olds with C240's! At least I got someone close in age here

But man.. It sure sucks to be in the situation you're in. Good luck with everything especially the costly part

Can't you pull lawsuits against mechanics that performed faulty service?

Lane that's not the correct oil or the correct amount. I don't know how much harm will be done by running non-approved engine oils but I wouldn't do it on my car. Getting the right oil is too easy for me to be okay with use of the wrong.

Lane - That dealer should be shot. It's the wrong oil. I have a safe compromise. Run it for 6500 miles & then change for the approved product. It would be quite safe to do this. The 2.6 litre is not a highly stressed engine.

Relax & stay away from a$$holes that don't know how to work on Benz cars. Next time you require an oil & filter change DIY - much safer. I know you wanted help with brakes & tranny - now that's done.

Glyn. I want to add, I looked at the Tranny DIY and it is pretty simiple, even changing out the filter. The only concern is having the right tools to take out the bolts and tighten afterwards. Other than that, it looks like another oil change.

Brakes, that could be a little intense. Since the work includes resurfacing the rotors and measuring the right specs within it's limit. I also want to add that the right tools. Perhaps it sounds difficult since I have not changed it yet.

Oh well.. I think a DIY will ensure you get the right stuff in and prevent mishaps like this.

04mbc230 - resurfacing the rotors is not a must-do on these cars. I do a pad change only and never have any noise/vibration issues. The original rotors lasted through 2 sets of pads and 53,000 miles before they were shot - and they were only shot then because of excessive stress when the car was overloaded, driven 1150 miles in 18 hours and 100+ degree heat at high speeds with high speed braking. The rotors and pads it has now are 33,500 miles old and just came off some very, very intense mountain runs - still just fine.

No a trip from NW Georgia to Tampa, FL for a funeral in June of 2009 with 5 not-small adults in the car.

Matt's right - far too many rotor changes on US cars - It's not necessary. Just put in new pads & drive the thing. I will easily take the rotors on my car 4 sets of pads.

I hope you still got the insurance information. i would also look into finding the owner of the shop vs the manager usually they are a lot more pleasant to work with and an older adult helps a lot when i was 16 at the Mercedes dealership they ignored me and would not do crap for me until i either got my dad to come in and raise hell or call mbusa and file a complaint. but that is true with anything when you are young. I would be so pissed if i was in your position that is why i always go to the dealer or a very good friends shop. even though he dealers are expensive and not always the best you can at least have a lot of people to yell at until it is fixed. I remember when the dealer broke my car. lol they called the cops on me and told me never to come back lol one phone call to mbusa and the owner of the dealership changed everything lol.

Lane - I think this is also an excellent time for you to spend the time and effort to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I don't generally put a lot of faith in things like that, but at the very least it will be on record if anyone looks, and probably make you feel better also. I can (sort of, vaguely, in a distant universe kind of way) understand them making a mistake, but treating you poorly today is over the top.

If it were mine, I think I'd take Glyn's route advice and run the oil for a while, then do an early change.

Very long story i don't want to talk about on here but they basically broke something did not own up to it and i started a scene. I left before it got bad and it all turned out in the end and no i didn't wait to see what the cops thought of all this. since if you are asked to leave a business and you don't i am sure the cops would help you along lol.
My friend said he would never take me to pick up my car ever again lol what fun memories.

This thread is epic. I'm glad they took care of everything.

The only thing I'm surprised about it how was the C240 able to accelerate to 35mph from one side of the parking lot to the other?

j/k

This is a little joke we have (Matt, Glyn)

In the end I'm glad you got it all taken care of.

Don't mind me I'm just excited because I have an interview tomorrow. I was doing research on the company and their site has a huge vulnerability and can be hacked with SQL Injection (hopefully I'll nail the interview)

Karo.

Lane, I'm glad it's worked out to a point where you don't have to stress and you're sleeping tonight! The BBB will put it on record but is essentially worthless otherwise.
